Daily Positive Thread for Tuesday

Hello my friends!  Beautiful Labor day here today!! We just stayed home, and that is good! Had a nice nap, naps are always good! God's blessings are all around us - good food to eat, place to sleep, all that Mother Teresa gave up for the poorest of the poor. Now she has her eternal reward, Heaven!

I'm blessed to know about her.  So nice of those who have met her in person.  We were supposed to have storms here today, but they missed us. I'm sure lots have had parties and they didn't have to be cancelled because of the weather.  When I was nine years old, way back then, I got polio on Labor Day.  I remember that!  I couldn't go to school until January! I was in the fourth grade. That thought just came to mind now.  I came out of that by a Miracle! Wishing you all a wonderful rest of the long weekend!! May tomorrow be blessed in all that you do!

When we give in to fears and worries they will take charge of our lives.
Lord, I place my trust in You so that I may experience every opportunity
and not miss in life that which is meant for me.

"Jesus straightened up and said to the woman caught in adultery, 'Woman,
where are they? Has no one condemned you?' She said, 'No one, sir.' And
Jesus said, 'Neither do I condemn you. Go your way, and from now on do not
sin again.'"  ~John 8:10-11

I can start a new life each day.  I can put away the old mistakes and start
anew each day.  God always offers me a fresh start.  I need not be burdened
or anxious.  If God's forgiveness were only for the righteous and those who
had not sinned, where would be its need?  I believe that God forgives us all
our sins.  We can honestly try to live today the way God wants us to live.
God forgives us much and we can be very grateful.

I pray that my life may not be spoiled by worry and fear and selfishness.
I pray that I may have a glad, thankful and humble heart.

Beautiful Lesson

This is a story from a book written in 1875 by a man named Robert Boyd. It's
called the "Trials and Triumphs of Faith." It's put me in tears, more than once.

A minister tells us that he was spending several days in one of our western
cities. He put up at a hotel, and one morning he heard, while up in his
room, the most wonderful whistling he had ever listened to. It seemed like
the note of a bird, but he thought it could not be that, for there was a
perfectly regular tune kept up with much power. Though he was in the third
story, yet the music came gushing up in its sweet melody, and seemed to fill
the whole house. He ran downstairs to get a sight of the wonderful
performer, looking every man that he met in the face. At last, he asked the
clerk who it was that had such amazing power as a whistler. Laughing at his
simplicity he pointed him to a canary bird that had been trained to perform
in this way, and was valued at $150.

"How was that bird trained to sing this way?" the gentleman enquired. In
reply the clerk told him that during the training process the bird is nearly
starved and shut up in a room that is almost dark. While it is under this
severe discipline, and its attention undivided, a bird organ is made to play
this one tune over and over again, for days. Hearing nothing else, and
taught by his troubles, the poor little bird takes up the tune, which he
performs so perfectly.

Thus it is that God permits his people to be afflicted that they may learn
the heavenly song. He shuts them up in the dark room of sorrow, away from
the tempting sights and sounds of the world, that they may, without
distraction, listen to his voice and learn to sing the higher melodies of
glory. Blessed are those who patiently wait the Lord's good time to work out
their deliverance. When the song of Grace is fully learned, he brings them
into a large place, sets their feet upon a rock, and others learn from them
the sweet song of redeeming love.

The Smile Starter

Smiling is infectious,

You catch it like the flu.

When someone smiled at me today,
I started smiling too.

I passed around the corner,
and someone saw my grin.

When he smiled I realized,
I'd passed it on to him.

I thought about that smile,
then I realized its worth.

A single smile just like mine,
could travel the earth.

So, if you feel a smile begin,
don't leave it undetected.

Let's start an epidemic quick,
and get the world infected!

Prayer for All Classes of People
O Lord, we bring before you the distress and dangers of peoples and nations, the pleas of the imprisoned and the captive, the sorrows of the grief-stricken, the needs of the refugee, the impotence of the weak, the weariness of the despondent, and the diminishments of the aging. O Lord, stay close to all of them. Amen.

Saint Anselm of Canterbury

God, Are You There?

I'm way down HERE!
You're way up THERE!
Are You sure You can hear
My faint, faltering prayer?
For I'm so unsure
Of just how to pray—
To tell you the truth, God,
I don't know what to say...
I just know I am lonely
And vaguely disturbed,
Bewildered and restless,
Confused and perturbed...
And they tell me that prayer
Helps to quiet the mind
And to unburden the heart
For in stillness we find
A newborn assurance
That SOMEONE DOES CARE
And SOMEONE DOES ANSWER
Each small sincere prayer!

Can Your Actions Affect Others?

Mark was walking home from school one day when he noticed the boy ahead of him had tripped and dropped all of the books he was carrying, along with two sweaters, a baseball bat, a glove and a small tape recorder.

Mark knelt down and helped the boy pick up the scattered articles. Since they were going the same way, he helped to carry part of the burden.

As they walked, Mark discovered the boy's name was Bill, that he loved video games, baseball and history, and that he was having lots of trouble with his other subjects, and that he had just broken up with his girlfriend.

They arrived at Bill's home first and Mark was invited in for a Coke and to watch some television. The afternoon passed pleasantly with a few laughs and some shared small talk, then Mark went home.

They continued to see each other around school, had lunch together once or twice, then both graduated from junior high school. They ended up in the same high school where they had brief contacts over the years.

Finally the long-awaited senior year came and three weeks before graduation, Bill asked Mark if they could talk.

Bill reminded him of the day years ago when they had first met. "Did you ever wonder why I was carrying so many things home that day?" asked Bill.

"You see, I cleaned out my locker because I didn't want to leave a mess for anyone else. I had stored away some of my mother's sleeping pills and I was going home to commit suicide. But after we spent some time together talking and laughing, I realized that if I had killed myself, I would have missed that time and so many others that might follow. So you see, Mark, when you picked up those books that day, you did a lot more, you saved my life."

Re: Daily Positive Thread for Tuesday

Love the prayer and meditation of the day! Thank you so much.   As I have mentioned before, I worry a lot.  Wish I could let some of it at least go but so tough for me. I keep trying for sure.

Lovely weekend here in spite of the storm coming close. Guess today is going to be rainy and windy.  But, the weekend was great! Yesterday, I too napped and it was great. Felt so perfect to have a day with only one errand and the rest of the time home with the kitties and reading.  So blessed!   Been thinking a lot about the next path to take and while I love my jobs would really like to leave MA and move back to VA or Charlotte, NC which is where my cousin lives.  I am praying God keeps my eyes open to new opportunities.  A move like this would be tough, so far and lots to coordinate.  Anyway, just some thoughts spinning in my brain.

Well, enjoy the day and I pray you all have many blessings and see and feel all the ordinary miracles that surround us.

Peace,Nancy

Re: Daily Positive Thread for Tuesday

@gloriajean, so you are a polio survivor!  Did you recover completely?  I remember getting polio shots back in the 1950s, and I also took the Sabin oral vaccine in the early 1960s. Thanks for today's post, and of course, Helen Steiner Rice.

@nj, Virginia and North Carolina are beautiful states, and I hope things fall in place for you. It would be so fun to live close to you cousin!

@meallen616, cute picture and a happy Tuesday is a good thing.

@lovestopaint, I'm glad you are feeling relief from sciatica, and may that summer cold be gone soon!

I'm picking up two of my grandkids again today to give them a bus break. I also need to scrub floors today and wash some windows. The heat wave has returned, but next week looks much better. I think I'd better finish my coffee and get busy!

May we all feel God's love surrounding us today!

Re: Daily Positive Thread for Tuesday

It sounds like everyone had a lovely weekend.  We had rain on and off all weekend.  My DH got a bit of fishing in yesterday, he's still smiling.

Gloria - I always enjoy the story of Mark and Bill, sad and happy one.  Wow, polio, my gracious, happy you are well now.  My Grandmother had tuberculosis when my DD was in elementary school.  He had to stay home to help on the farm.  She went to a sanitarium until she was well.  Terrible diseases.

nj - if you would enjoy a move, you should pray about it and a decision will come.  If living close to your family makes you happy, I think that is a consideration - my 2 cents. LOL

Meallen - Hope we all enjoyed our Tuesday.Smiley Happy

Harlene - hope you feel better soon.

Ruby - picking up the grandkids, good for you.  So much fun to hear about their little world.

I hope all of you saw blessings - big and small today.  Just as I try to do everyday.  Enjoy your evening, ladies!!

Nancy - I wish for you the move if it's what God is putting on your mind to do, it may be the best thing for you and be closer to your cousin.  May God guide you in this big decision.  When you worry, just pray, pray and ask God to help you to not worry and let Him take charge.  It works.

Harlene - sorry abut that summer cold.  My you soon return to good health.  I take Alka-Seltzer Plus for colds and allergies.  Do you ever take that? It helps alot with the sinuses.  Glad you're feeling much better from that sciatic nerve now.    Hope it stays good.

Re: Daily Positive Thread for Tuesday

Ruby - Yes, I'm a polio survivor. I had the Bulbar Polio, that is polio in my throat. Holy Water from Lourdes is what really helped me get over it. My uncle, a priest, was there and brought some for me, I was to put some drops on my tongue.  I was only 5 days in the Oxygen tent, I was expected to be more,  I was in the hospital 5 fweeks, where others were in for months.  My after affect is a cough when I have a cold, I just don't cough normally like everyone else, but I'm fine. Have fun with those grandkids.
