Daily Positive Thread for Tuesday

Hello my friends!  Well the day came and we had our closing on the house!  It went well.  Lori and Jeremy had a hard time getting home, driving the moving truck with no cruise control, and being her knee was hurting and her shoulder and neck badly, and Jeremy's back was really bad, they decided to stay another night in a hotel to rest up.  She just couldn't drive anymore, he either, so now I heard from her and she's home and doing massages until 8 PM tonight. Said she has two 90 minute ones!  That's got to be tough!  Said I'd be praying for her.  If you see this before 8 PM please pray for her too for strength and for her healing.  Thanks for all your prayers for us, praying for you all, all of you, who don't post, too!

 

Unhappiness within comes out in an emotional reaction, unlike the happy person
who is slow to anger. Lord, help me to glow in Your presence so that the heat of
the moment doesn't get to me.

M E D I T A T I O N   F O R   T H E   D A Y 

"The effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness,
quietness and trust forever."  Only when the soul attains this calm, can
there be true spiritual work done, and mind and soul and body be strong to
conquer and bear all things.  Peace is the result of righteousness.  There
is no peace in wrong doing, but if we live the way God wants us to live,
quietness and assurance can follow.  Assurance is that calmness born of a
deep certainty of God's strength available to us and in God's power to love
and guard us from all harm and wrong doing.

P R A Y E R   F O R   T H E   D A Y 

I pray that I may attain a state of true calmness.  I pray that I may live
in quietness and peace.
 
O Blessed Virgin Mary
 
BLESSED Virgin Mary, who can worthily repay thee thy just dues of praise and thanksgiving, thou who by the wondrous assent of thy will didst rescue a fallen world? What songs of praise can our weak human nature recite in thy honor, since it is by thy intervention alone that it has found the way to restoration?
 
Accept, then, such poor thanks as we have here to offer, though they be unequal to thy merits; and, receiving our vows, obtain by thy prayers the remission of our offenses. Carry thou our prayers within the sanctuary of the heavenly audience, and bring forth from it the antidote of our reconciliation. May the sins we bring before Almighty God through thee, become pardonable through thee; may what we ask for with sure confidence, through thee be granted.
 
Take our offering, grant us our requests, obtain pardon for what we fear, for thou art the sole hope of sinners. Through thee we hope for the remission of our sins, and in thee, O blessed Lady, is our hope of reward. Holy Mary, succor the miserable, help the fainthearted, comfort the sorrowful, pray for thy people, plead for the clergy, intercede for all women consecrated to God; may all who keep thy holy commemoration feel now thy help and protection.
 
Be thou ever ready to assist us when we pray, and bring back to us the answers to our prayers. Make it thy continual care to pray for the people of God, thou who, blessed by God, didst merit to bear the Redeemer of the world, who liveth and reigneth, world without end. Amen.

What he valued most

A young man learns what's most important in life from the guy next door.
It had been some time since Jack had seen the old man. College, girls,
career, and life itself got in the way. In fact, Jack moved clear across
the country in pursuit of his dreams. There, in the rush of his busy
life, Jack had little time to think about the past and often no time to
spend with his wife and son. He was working on his future, and nothing
could stop him.

Over the phone, his mother told him, "Mr. Belser died last night. The
 
funeral is Wednesday." Memories flashed through his mind like an old
newsreel as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days.

"Jack, did you hear me?"
 
"Oh, sorry, Mom. Yes, I heard you. It's been so long since I thought of
him. I'm sorry, but I honestly thought he died years ago," Jack said.

"Well, he didn't forget you. Every time I saw him he'd ask how you were
 
doing. He'd reminisce about the many days you spent over 'his side of
the fence' as he put it," Mom told him.

"I loved that old house he lived in," Jack said.
 

"You know, Jack, after your father died, Mr. Belser stepped in to make
 
sure you had a man's influence in your life," she said.

"He's the one who taught me carpentry," he said. "I wouldn't be in this
 
business if it weren't for him. He spent a lot of time teaching me
things he thought were important...Mom, I'll be there for the funeral,"
Jack said.

As busy as he was, he kept his word. Jack caught the next flight to his
 
hometown. Mr. Belser's funeral was small and uneventful. He had no
children of his own, and most of his relatives had passed away.

The night before he had to return home, Jack and his Mom stopped by to
 
see the old house next door one more time.

Standing in the doorway, Jack paused for a moment. It was like crossing
 
over into another dimension, a leap through space and time. The house
was exactly as he remembered. Every step held memories. Every picture,
every piece of furniture....Jack stopped suddenly.

"What's wrong, Jack?" his Mom asked.
 

"The box is gone," he said.
 

"What box? " Mom asked.
 

"There was a small gold box that he kept locked on top of his desk. I
 
must have asked him a thousand times what was inside. All he'd ever tell
me was 'the thing I value most,'" Jack said.

It was gone. Everything about the house was exactly how Jack remembered
 
it, except for the box. He figured someone from the Belser family had
taken it.

"Now I'll never know what was so valuable to him," Jack said. "I better
 
get some sleep. I have an early flight home, Mom."

It had been about two weeks since Mr. Belser died. Returning home from
 
work one day Jack discovered a note in his mailbox. "Signature required
on a package. No one at home. Please stop by the main post office within
the next three days," the note read.

Early the next day Jack retrieved the package. The small box was old and
 
looked like it had been mailed a hundred years ago. The handwriting was
difficult to read, but the return address caught his attention.

"Mr. Harold Belser" it read.
 

Jack took the box out to his car and ripped open the package. There 

inside was the gold box and an envelope. Jack's hands shook as he read
the note inside.

"Upon my death, please forward this box and its contents to Jack
 
Bennett. It's the thing I valued most in my life." A small key was taped
to the letter. His heart racing, as tears filling his eyes, Jack
carefully unlocked the box. There inside he found a beautiful gold
pocket watch. Running his fingers slowly over the finely etched casing,
he unlatched the cover.

Inside he found these words engraved: "Jack, Thanks for your time!
 
Harold Belser."

"The thing he valued most...was...my time."
 

Jack held the watch for a few minutes, then called his office and
 
cleared his appointments for the next two days. "Why?" Janet, his
assistant asked.

"I need some time to spend with my son," he said.
 

"Oh, by the way, Janet...thanks for your time!"

 

 

 
Dear God,
Every day I hear You.
Every day I see You.
Every day You make me stronger.
But, without a prayer every day,
Your presence in me might fade away.
And such a beautiful thing would be no longer.

Today's readings 9/28/15
Zec.8:1-8;  Ps.102:16-21, 29, 22-23;  Lk.9:46-50
 
It's only natural for us to want to be recognized and accepted and there's really nothing wrong with aspiring to greatness either, what we have to remember however is it isn't all about us. Common sense tells us that in order to be recognized someone else has to do the recognizing, the same thing holds true when it comes to greatness, otherwise we're just serving our own ego, and that my friends is the fertile soil pride grows in. Unfortunately we all suffer from that deadly vice in one way or another, like Jesus in today's Gospel God is well aware of the "intentions of our hearts", and even though those intentions may be good our human pride can sometimes lead us astray. That's why it's so important to remain like "a little child" in the Hands of Our Heavenly Father who knows when and where His children need Him the most. He knows and "recognizes" each and every one of us, and I can assure you He, like Jesus shows us today, will not abandon us when our human weaknesses get the best of us. In His Eyes all of His children have the potential to achieve great things, and Jesus tells us how even "the least among us" can do just that. No, it's not all about us, it's about how we, by the Grace of God, help one another overcome our weaknesses and burdens. That's what defines true greatness, and people who live like that are easy to recognize and even easier to accept, the question is are you one of them?

September 28 - Jesus Calling

Open your mind and heart—your entire being—to receive My Love in full measure. So many of My children limp through their lives starved for Love, because they haven’t learned the art of receiving. This is essentially an act of faith: believing that I love you with boundless, everlasting Love. The art of receiving is also a discipline: training your mind to trust Me, coming close to Me with confidence. Remember that the evil one is the father of lies. Learn to recognize his deceptive intrusions into your thoughts. One of his favorite deceptions is to undermine your confidence in My unconditional Love. Fight back against these lies! Do not let them go unchallenged. Resist the devil in My Name, and he will slink away from you. Draw near to Me, and My Presence will envelop you in Love.

I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. —Ephesians 3:16–19

Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence. —Hebrews 4:16
