When I was a little girl, I would visit my grandmother every summer.❤ She was a VERY detail oriented, and regimented person! From the moment my feet touched the floor in the morning, there was routine.
I was dressed, and my bed was made before I left the room; breakfast came shortly thereafter. Chores were expected to be done by 9 am; believe me, they were!😂
I resented those things when I was a child, but have been very grateful since then. This strict adherence to structure has served me well in my adult life.😁
~~~All we need is LOVE💖
No - when I retired I swore I'd never again live according to a schedule.
While I do have occasional appointments and things like regular meetings / church services / etc .... I just do what I want, when I want to do it.
I used to be more regimented but since I retired I enjoy flying by the seat of my pants. ![]()
I do like structure. It makes things easier.
Now that I'm aging and getting stupid I actually NEED some of that structure. I have systems for things that are important because I have lost my formerly good memory and thought continuity frequently eludes me.
For other, less important things, I do fly by the seat of my pants a bit but it's kind of frustrating. I cannot tell you how many times a day, every single day, I go to do something and halfway from one room of my house to the next I forget what I was doing. I'll see something else I need to do, do that, go back, and maybe later I remember the thing that I had set out to do.
Usually, after a couple of times of setting out to do something, I will just keep saying it out loud (good thing I'm usually alone) on the way to do it, so that it doesn't leave my brain before I can get to it.
I also like structure for certain things like where I keep things. If I don't have specific places where I keep things, they end up lost. I have specific systems for the most important things like paying bills. I would never want to skrew that up!
My systems work great for me, as it takes no time at all to play by my own set rules and it just becomes natural quickly. I sure wish I could teach this to the husband. He tends to do most everything helter skelter and it's exasperating.
I'm retired, but do make a list most days, or even the night before. Otherwise, I tend to forget something that I should have done, like calling a friend, contactIng a company that we do business with, etc. The list does not include chores...those can wait for another day! 😉
I don't know how to classify it but I wake up every day knowing that I'll be doing essentially nothing all day. I can read, watch movies, surf the net, etc. but here in WA state we're as close to being closed down as you can be without actually being closed down.
I'm not a regimented person & never was. I prefer to "Fly by the seat of my pants"...but at the same time I'm very organized. I also keep lists...it helps me to focus on what needs to be done & when.
My one cousin is the most regimented person I know. She's single, lives alone, retired to boot and never deviates from her "schedule". If she has to for some reason it throws her into a tizzy.
Last year my sister asked her to go Christmas shopping on a Wednesday. Cousin had to change to another day because............. Wednesday is the day she changes the sheets. For one freakin bed. How long does it take to wash/dry sheets?
She is so rigid I'm surprised she doesn't snap in half when she bends over.
I definitely prefer a routine & schedule. I always made lists when I was working, because I had so many things to accomplish and only so much time. Since retiring a few years ago I have more free time on my hands, but I still prefer to schedule most things. I don’t make daily lists anymore so that is one change I've made since retiring.
@GoneButNotForgotten Yes, I know. My DD lives in WA state and when I spoke to her last night, she said things were getting rough there. Hang in there.
