Re: Cutting the cord

@kaydee50   I understand your choice. We have been reluctant to check out alternative choices for the same reasons.   We used to be able to negotiate a better price...no longer.   I'm glad that you have found a solution that suits you!

@phoenixbrd  Oh, I see.  Yes, we are pretty much all on flat terrain, except of course for where "they paved paradise and put up a parking lot."   🎵🎶😞

Cable cutting not an option in our mountain location.  We have to view it as the cost of our entertainment; in addition to satellite we have Netflix, Disney, Amazon and STARZ.  We usually pick one of our options to entertain ourselves at home ( don't usually go to movie theaters ( especially last 18 months).

@SloopJohnB  Thanks for sharing.  I wish we could use your solution.  In our valley antennas don't work because of the surrounding mountains.  I'm happy that you are able to use the antennas!

I cannot use Antenna's either because I am too far away from major citys.  I did cut the cord and my Amazon Firestick allows me to get one local news channel which I watch only during hurricane season.  Barring that I have Amazon Prime, Netflix and Philo so I went from paying close to $200.00 per month to $35.00 per month with more tv than I really should be watching anyway.

I didn't watch Network TV before so I don't miss it.

@phoenixbrd   I suggest going to the Electronics Forum and putting "Cutting the cord" in the search area.  There should be quite a bit of info there.  I know I've written several posts on the subject there.

FYI, I subscribed to Sling and rarely found anything I wanted to watch.  Nothing late at night.  So I subscribed to YouTubeTV which is more expensive but I like it so much better.

Do you have a way to record from YouTube TV? I have looked at the channels and like the line-up. I am very low tech, so afraid to let go of the cable sure thing. Getting set up may be above my skill level.

We cut the cord 2 years and couldn't be happier. DirectTV was going to raise our rates by $65 a month and that was it for us. I counted what offi was paying for and between the 65 shopping/infomercial channels, music, religion and kid channels I wasn't getting any value. We have Hulu Plus for $65 a month which is pretty close to cable. With Amazon Prime, Hulu and Roku which is free there is more than enough to watch,

@Miss Pepsi   Good deal...I think your rates may be cheaper than here...we couldn't put that bundle together for $35, but I'm glad you have been able to do this!  We looked at Philo and we are currently also paying for Netflix.  Sounds as if you are covered!

@Kachina624   Thanks for your input on Sling....that's what I'm concerned about...having lots of channels and nothing we want to see.  That's what we have now with Spectrum at a premium cost..

I will do a search for others sources of information on this subject...thanks!

@On It   I didn't know that You Tube has a "line-up".  I'll check it out.  I do a lot of research and I'm frequently on YouTube....it has been an amazing source for my interests that are somewhat obscure.  Thanks for the idea!
