@GingerPeach I think we are paying !3/mo for netflix. Every time I go through the line up there is nothing I want to watch. (The exception was all the mountain climbing films that were stunning!) We love British film (miss Mrs. Bouquet and As Time Goes By)....so I think Acorn might be a great choice. Thanks for the heads up.

@Sooner You have what we have....Apple TVs, Amazon Prime,Netflix. We love our Amazon Prime and just discovered Amazon TV. Netflix....thinking about giving up as haven't watched anything on Netflix in the last couple of years.
There are only about five channels that are watched on the Spectrum bundle and the landline is useless (mostly scam calls)....we use our cells for family and close friends. So we pay 2500/year+ for internet service and 5 tv channels. It makes sense to look at streaming...just been complacent about making the change.
If you are happy with your provider and the charge....then you are in great shape!

@Drythe The AI implications bother me too, but that would take a thesis worth of discussion. Even with awareness and precautions, it is a warranted concern.

I don't understand streaming, etc. And the "streaming" services as I understand are also raising their rates.
I want to be able to turn on my TV and choose what I want to watch and not think about which "streaming" service carries which channel.
To us, cable is worth it.
@kaydee50 I am staying with my cable co for the same reasons you mentioned. I have made some changes like removing certain tiers that I don't watch to reduce cost. Never missed any of them. Right now...cable and internet is under $100... so I am staying. The streaming thing doesn't interest me either.

@Mombo1 If my service was only $100 a month...I would keep it too. It wouldn't be worth it to change...but in my location your price is unheard of and Spectrum is only going up. My cost is over 2500/year and I have the bargain basement bundle! I think most people are looking at streaming because of the high cost. I am happy for you, great that you have access to such a bargain!

For those of you who are enjoying Youtube, have you discovered those mesmerizing train videos? They have them from Switzerland and other countries. Yes, just videos of riding a train, often from the point of view of the engineer.
Very soothing for times you just want some "company" in the background.

This one is two hours through the Swiss Alps. Others are of varying length - one minute, ten minutes, half an hour, etc.

Me either. I'll stick with my satellite as long as I can afford it, even though it frustrates me sometimes. I'm not quite sure how streaming works, but my tv is on all day--sometimes 20 hours out of 24. I don't think streaming would work well for me.
It's a priority in my life now and since I don't spend on other things, I'll keep it the way it is. There are other things I'm willing to eliminate if I have to before the satellite goes.

@geezerette If your costs are not astronomical and it gives you peace of mind...I totally understand. I have put off making this decision for a couple of years...this last price hike did it for me. I'm finally putting the effort into getting the information, so I can make the right decision. Sounds like you are content with your services, that is great!

I have satellite. I called and negotiated a better price for my service. I'm saving $45 a month now. I have to call every year to renew it but that's ok with me. And it brings my bill down to what it would be if I signed up for some of the other services like Hulu, Netflix, Sling, etc.
