@CherryHugs  You have been given great advice.

The problem happens because people see a quote or picture on social media or Pinterest for example and pass those along.

The copyright ©️ has often been ignored or people will design their own image especially for quotes and neglect to properly identify the original owner/artist/etc.

Also some times a person will post on FB for example and others mistakenly believe that person is the author.

I am speaking about real life copyright issues, not just here.

And yes QVC has been called out regarding ©️ materials.

Best to follow the advice given here.

If people would leave other posters alone, instead of policing everyone they don't like and reporting and reporting and reporting, we wouldn't have a problem. Posts are removed when they are reported by fellow posters HERE.

Right now there are threads with hundreds of memes and pictures that I'm sure are not of posters creation. Who cares if it's copyrighted, unless you are the author?

This sounds like you are advocating for ignoring the rules and saying or doing whatever "you" want and the rest of the members should just s**k it up.

As to who may care whether something is copyrighted or not I would think first and foremost is the entity that faces huge costs in damages for allowing the copyrighted material to be posted.

It is a serious enough situation that forum guidelines specifically prohibit copyrighted or trademarked content.

You are free to interpret what I wrote any way you like.

That, however, does not make your interpretation correct, but it was a nice try.

It's absolutely no different than QVC being very careful about music played on air during presentations such as speakers and sound bars.

@Lakelife62 YOU will definitely care if you get sued for using copyrighted material. And the mods monitor these forums, not relying only on forum user reports. I think you might learn a lot about the seriousness of using copyrighted materials just by reading the helpful posts on this board. It's a matter of law and integrity.

I don't post memes or sayings not attributed to the author, so I definitely don't care.

The mods monitor the forums when they are alerted by posters reporting all sorts of things they dislike. IMO, if your only control in life is getting posters thoughts removed by reporting everything you think may be "breaking rules", you have bigger problems than strangers on a shopping chat board.

Of course, my opinion only.

Putting on my flame retardent suit to admit in the past I have reported blatant copyright violations.

I've been an avid cross stitcher for 40 years and over the past 2 decades MANY designers have gone out of business because of thieves who photocopy the original designs and sell them on ebay and other sites.

Efforts made to shut them down but it's absolutely impossible to stop. People should know that things such as all Peanuts and Disney characters are heavily protected and the owners of those rights do not hesitate to prosecute violators.

Flame away, I don't care.

@Lakelife62 I have zero concern about what other people do or do not report. My concern is for people who are not aware of copyright laws and/or the consequences of copyright violation and unwittingly post images, etc. that are copyrighted. Posting copyrighted material with attribution does not waive copyright laws. This forum has done a good service in alerting people to copyright laws.

The poster who was posting the Reader's Digest stories didn't feel those were a copyright infringement issue because she was not using copy/paste.  She was re-typing them.  She was quite upset when her threads were deleted by the mods because of the time it took to re-type them from Reader's Digest.
