I received an email this morning from the Container Store stating that they are filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. It also states that they don't plan to close any stores and will emerge as a stronger company.

I hope they survive, hate to see another store close.

I had read about the bankruptcy for the Container Store. That is one store I just enjoy walking around and checking out what they have. I always seem to find stuff "I just have to have".

Glad they are not planning on closing any stores. But shopping at the Container Store has changed. Seems many displays are now empty. And there are boxes of merchandise scattered around the store. So you dig through the boxes and hope it contains what you are looking for.

Does anyone have a clue as to why all these stores are going under, malls closing, etc.  Although people may be economizing to buy groceries, there's still a lot of money out there.  Wages are up, unemployment is low, so what's going on?

@Kachina624

Malls are out and have been long before the last 4 years and internet has taken over.

I’ve seen in-store inventory is often lousy. And companies don’t want to hire and pay store clerks.

Buying patterns have also changed with younger generations not interested in buying some of the same goods.

Re: Container Store

[ Edited ]

The younger folks don't shop the way we used to.  My son is 44  and he told me he can't remember the last time he was in a store to buy things for himself (except for ******'s sporting goods).  He buys everything online.

Edited:  sporting goods store with a man's name starting with D.  Censor wouldn't allow it.

I don’t think that company has any stores near us. Never been in one.
Online shopping is doing a number on brick and mortar stores. Younger people now a days don’t go to malls, stores like we did. ( Mall Rat here 😄) The only store that my kids go to on a regular basis is IKEA.

That's one store I would hate to see close.  I practically live there.
