No matter how early the holiday season starts @bargainsgirl , it would never become "meaningless" for me and many others. I personally need all the time I can get and love all the ideas introduced.

Currently this is right in the middle of my busiest time of the year. My table is covered with my crafts I am making. I already wrapped a couple gifts and am in full force into my Christmas shopping and preparedness.

No Christmas decorations up yet but I am still in the spirit and can never get too much. There are several shopping channels to choose from, so far there hasn't been an hour that all of them are Christmas themed.

I love the holiday movies already showing, the commercials, the stores, and the shopping channels. Love it.

@cjm61 Would you care to share what crafts you are making?

I have mentioned before that I take a wet felting technique class once a week and have been working on some items.  Scarves and a few vessels.  I hope to make a small vessel in class tomorrow.

@bargainsgirl   I agree.  It almost seems sacrilegious to me with the emphasis on buying and not on the true meaning of what is being celebrated.  I think starting after Labor Day is plenty of time for everyone to do their "shopping."

For crying out loud, keep in mind these are RETAILERS.

Their business is to offer products and show a profit, which is what their shareholders expect.

Yes, there is symbolism in bringing gifts to the newborn in the manger, but these are STORES.

If you want more emphasis on the true meaning of Christmas, shouldn't you be seeking that with your religious organizations of choice?

Re: Christman overkill

[ Edited ]

Come to think of it, I have been celebrating since June. Love the shopping channel programming, being out in stores and listening to music and watching holiday movies. Come January, no more. Christmas can be different to many people, many have suffered loss of family or income. I completely get it.

I never get tired of Christmas...celebrating the true meaning, gift giving, decorating & all the hoopla that goes with it. I always shop early because it fits my budget since I have a huge property tax bill due in December. I live in the country near a small town that goes all out for CIJ, it's always crowded ...Main Street is decorated & closed, there's free activities for the kids, all kinds of goodies & bargains to keep shoppers happy & the business owners in business. I enjoy all the Holidays, hope I always will...truth is, they are what you make them.

I am not a fan of the Christmas season.  I'd skip it if I could.

I prefer a laid back approach....church and dinner.

So, after many years of following tradition, I changed things.  I just cook and bake... a lot because I like to spend the day with my family.

I no longer shop, decorate, wrap or run myself ragged for the things that don't really matter.

I give cash and a nice card, provide a really nice meal and many, many cookies and baked goods for my family and some friends.

The heck with retailers.  They have no place in my Christmas. That stuff isn't important to me.  I celebrate Christ's birth, not the secular holiday.

Agreed--am, tired of it now too, but understand that retail has got to get while the getting is good. You know, with the wonderful, beautiful tariffs and all----my shopping is done--since October as a matter of fact.

Every year it feels like Christmas gets pushed earlier and earlier. I swear I saw decorations before Halloween this time.

I am already so tired of Christmas.  Sure seams like it all started way earlier this year.  All holidays seem meaningless anymore with all the hoopla and commercialism...

@bargainsgirl I am sick to death of football and basketball already and doesn't do me any good.  And basketball lasts almost year around now.
