Removing attendance reward is super idea and should be copied by all. Kids value these awards but when one is sick, staying home is best for all (except for parents whose work environment is threatening and they can’t find backups). Having backups can’t be emphasized enough.

I think when your kids are sick, Mom or Dad need to be the one to take care of them. It's only fair to everyone. When I worked I always made it clear that my kids had to come first and they accepted that. Now that I am a Grandma, I love watching my grandkids but not when they are sick. I don't want to take the chance of getting what they have, so it has to be Mom or Dad.
