We have loads of squirrels around, but they have not eaten the pumpkins, but they bury their nuts in my raised beds.

Re: Javelin

I've lived most of my adult life in So Cal, but also have lived in New Mexico and have camped in tons of southwest areas and have never heard of them.... so I looked up this animal and found all kinds of info.... always learning something new!!  Thanks  Woman LOL

I have a small raised garden that only has 3 plants in it. (1 cuke & 2 tomato plants). Got home the other night and a squirrel was on my back deck with one of my tomatoes. He was sitting on the rail and didn't bother to run even though I was very close. Chowed down the tomato while looking at me then ran off. (Didn't even say thank you. LOL) Then, one morning I was having coffee on my deck and a squirrel jumped up on my deck railing so close, I could have petted it. Sat on the deck across the table from me & stared at me like I sure had the nerve to be invading HIS space.

I feed the birds year round and the squirrels raid the feeders.  It got so bad a couple years ago we had to re-screen our porch with animal proof screening.  The squirrels were climbing all over the house and ripped the screens.    Tried a number of things to get rid of what I now call the "furry rats". They do not like safflower seeds!  It's a bit more expensive, but it's not being eaten by squirrels so I don't have to fill the feeders as often.

even though I detest squirrels (and this picture shows the reason why), this made me laugh.
