My previous dog came down with IMHA after receiving his annual immunizations. I suspect triggering his immune system put it into crazy high drive, attacking his red blood cells. The RBC's become damaged and can't carry oxygen.

We tried everything. Nothing helped. You can do transfusions, but those RBC's will be attacked, too. The owner doesn't do anything wrong to cause this. Unfortunately, it just can happen. It suddenly strikes healthy, well cared for dogs. Lots of varied theories about why.

I hope Carolyn comes to realize that she did the best she could, but I personally know it's very hard to accept a loss like this. It's been ten years for me and I'm still triggered often over this loss.

I wish Carolyn well and I can feel her pain. It's not going to go away soon, but she'll eventually be able to remember the joys, instead of the loss, itself.

@BlueFinch ... I'm very sorry to read you lost your dog to IMHA also. How heartbreaking for you! 💖 Thank you for sharing this with all of us.

That makes me cry again but I'm so glad so many showed they care about her and Zoey. She has always seemed like such a good person and her love of animals made me love her all the more!
