The lower area is getting green.  Wild iris are growing around the water.

This is the side of the drive way looking down to the pond.  It's a 15 ft drop off at the far end.  "Lovely" when everything is a sheet of ice, I'll tell you!!!

@ECBG   That's just beautiful.  Do you have any wildlife other than ducks?  I bet lots of birds.  How about deer?  I bet Shadow love to explore that area.

Shadow scared the Momma duck.  I think she'll come back soon since we have a spring fed pond.

We have a lot of hawks that are the decedents of the one that used to sit with me when I was on the deck the winter we lost our younger son in the wreck.

"Hawkly" sat a long time with me, about 10 years.

I would stand on the side part of our porch when he flew down our drive way and hold out my arm.  He would fly right under me!

No deer here.  Bear, wild cats, hawks, and an occasional turkey.  The deer are in a more "tame neighborhood" closer to town.

I am not fearful of much growing up on the side of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

@ECBG    YOU must have had an idyllic childhood.  Beautiful place to grow up.

I didn't know you'd lost a son.  I'm so sorry.  I did too so can sympathize.  The worst pain you ever felt, isn't it?  And it leaves a permanent hole in your heart.  No parent should have to suffer such a loss.

Thank you.  So sorry to hear about your loss.

You may find some comfort in this writting, I only found it a few months ago and I love it.

ECBG - What a lovely area. Your piece of paradise. My dad's childhood was spent around U.S. 74 & NC 28N. We would turn into a narrow lane, off of NC 28N, then drop and cross a small bridge. Hanging on a bridge post was a water dipper. Our tradition was stopping to take a drink. Creek water cool. Pass the barn then a half mile longer to his childhood home in the 'gap.' Your photo brought back sweet memories. Thank you.

Are you building an ark yet?

Some storm here in Paradise Hills.  LARGE hail!  Looks like we're covered in snow.  Sounds like the house is a giant popcorn popper.

@just bee    That's the way it is here too.  I dashed about 4 ft outside the front entrance to grab a pot of geraniums I just bought and my hair got soaked and embedded with ice.  Street curb to curb with water.  Gone now but I hear distant thunder.

My plants took a beating.  Wish I'd moved the container plants to safety, but... too late.

Haven't had a storm like that in a long time.  Impressive.
