Momma duck has laid her eggs. She and daddy duck follow DH for honey wheat bread. Tonight we were on the deck looking down on them. They saw us and started coming up so we went in.

@ECBG. Awww, you're going to be a duck grandmother. It'll be fun to watch them hatch and grow. You should be more hospitable to your neighbors. Maybe they'd bring the kids to see you.

@ECBG I've read everywhere that bread isn't good for ducks.

Bread is NOT GOOD for ANY BIRDS !!!! (They can't digest it properly.)

I used to feed my duck family cracked corn

I was wondering why you went in when they started coming. Did you mean you were going to go in and then go outside to feed them?

Simply, bread fills up a small stomach in a hurry. The bird doesn't know the food is useless, but leaves feeling full and satisfied, nonetheless. This is a deadly combination of factors, considering how many calories birds need to eat in order to survive.

I remember right after college, my ex and I moved to a place with a big pond. We bought baby ducks. However, he found a giant mud turtle in the pond, so until he "got" it out, I had 5 little duckies living in my guest bath tub lol. Talk about a mess to clean everyday! Yikes! But it turned out to all be worth it!
They were so tame, they'd come right onto the porch for food...another mess lol.😃💝🌸

Feeding bread to ducks is never a good idea. It is junk food with no nutrients. Harmful to their health.
If you do not want to order duck pellets, chicken pellets can work in a pinch.
Or get some corn or peas, even bird seed for a bit.
Just no junk food for a growing family.

Up around the house they can get into our street or around a neighborhood dog. Also the back of the house is where cars go in and out. They're much safer.
