I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Let me tell you my breast cancer story.....I was diagnosed with DCIS....Ductal Carcinoma In Situ, Stage zero February 2012. I had a core biopsy to confirm the cancer diagnosis, a lumpectomy, 28 radiation zaps and 5 years of Tamoxifen. My cancer was 1.7 mm, the size of a grain of rice, my cancer was caught very, very, very early. I was terrified of radiation....what I did and what helped me, at each and every radiation session, I I gained an Army of little green men g long through my body killing off the cancer cells....I named them "Zippies Zappers"...don't laugh...it helped! I had a special cream that I applied after every treatment. By the end of my 8 treatments, I was a little red, like a mild sunburn, and a.so sort of like a light tan. The skin was very sensitive and I couldn't wear an underwire bra, but a non-u derwire bra. I was very, very itchy and wasn't allowed to scratch. Heat and humidity made it worse. Eventually, that went away, but on rare occasions, I still itch.....Go.d Bond anti-itch cream stops the itching in its tracks. I drove myself to each and every "zap". I was slightly tired by the last couple of treatments, but nothing serious. My appetite stayed the same, ate whatever I wanted. Tamoxifen u fortunately gave me hot flashes again..ugh...and I gained weight, about 10 pounds which I am still struggling to lose, BUT I am cancer-free going on 11 years later.

You can do this....as I was told, if you have to get breast cancer, this is the one that you want to have.

All my best wishes to you.

Bless you.  Take care and do what the doctors tell you.

Thank goodness you caught it.

My dad went through radiation at age 87 for pancreatic cancer. He was tired for that period of time but didn't have other symptoms. At his most recent follow up, the tumor has shrunk to 1/4 its original size. He's doing very well now at age 91.  He goes in for annual scans to be sure it's not growing.

I wish you well and thank god you went.  My friend found a lump four years ago and did nothing.  Didn,t go to Dr. Told no one.  Today is in hospice not just dying, but a decayed breast they dress three times a week and has so much pain.

It,s so important to get tested.

You got it in time.  Best of luck.

Look into sugar, carbs & cancer.  I would try to avoid eating this as from what I have read many times that cancer thrives on sugar.

Best of luck to you!

@friendscafe I was diagnosed at age 54.  I had a tumor the size of a golf ball in my right breast.  Oddly I never missed a mammogram since age 40 but also have dense breasts. My tumor went undetected and had a full year to grow.  I found the lump myself in the shower close to my mammogram appointment the following year.  By now lymphnodes are involved and so it began.........surgery, chemo (4 months of it) and 35 radiation treatments.  I'm not making light of radiation but after chemo, it's a walk in the park.

Everyone will have different outcomes depending on what your skin can tolerate.  I had sunburn like color and feeling.  I also did the Aquaphor cream after each treatment and wore the 100% cotton t shirts for months.  I simply couldn't handle anything touching my skin.  My sister also went through radiation treatment for BC and she did very well.  As far as diet, I wasn't on any special one but I still stay away from soy products .

I wish you all the best and remember they have advanced so much with treatment, if caught early as yours, you should have a great prognosis!  I am certainly happy and thankful to be here and healthy again, at 8 years now.

Re: Breast Cancer

[ Edited ]

@friendscafe --I went thru breast cancer in 2012--left breast  had a pretty big tumor. Had surgery, chemo and radiation for 33 days.  Last year my oncologist declared me cured of cancer. Yes it was overwhelming and scary. I ate normally--radiation really isn't a big deal altho your skin does get painful about the last week or week and 1/2--like a bad sunburn. And maybe you are more easily fatigued.  But eating and drinking were not  an issue. No, radiation  did not knock me on  my caboose. Never heard about the fruit or crackers tho--I drank lots of liquids anyway.  And I don't have an idea about what Medicare will cover but that is one thing you need to research. But very glad you caught this so early---good for you. I always had to get an ultrasound along with my mammos but I had private health insurance that covered it. Dang dense breast anyway!!! good luck!!!
