Re: Bird's Nest for August 2016

ohhhhhhhhhhh Possum, that picture you put up is simply breathtaking - you find the most gorgeous pictures of nature and critters - it took my breath away. The colors were deep and profound!!!!

Got a tad sticky today - will it ever stop and I pray it will not get worse as August has hardly begun. Ahhhhhhhhh, the dry air we USE TO HAVE.

This has NOTHING to do with a bird nest but must say. I have always voted - in all elections but one if my memory is correct - and that was when a year's requirement was a must. I am a strong believer in it. This election, however has spewed so much hatred - and negativity and lies that have been unbelievable. Yes, of course I will vote but am so sick of the horrible emails, Facebook info, etc that is spewed in all directions with truth having nothing to do with the truth!!! So very sad. I still say anyone has the right to like or dislike any president we have had so far. But I will say even stronger, the president deserves the ultimate respect - and yes there have been a couple I kind of struggle with but NEVER WOULD I WRITE THE GARBAGE AND HATRED I SEE DIRECTED AT SOME. So very sad.

Ricky went last night to stay with his "Auntie" Sherry and "Uncle" Matt. They love that boy and he adores them. He was getting very frustrated here for whatever reason and Sherry says he is a happy camper there.  Bless them as my heart wants only happiness for that little love. Now the girl is in seventh heaven here. LOL. Yesterday I took her for a one hour visit with her bio father - she does not dig him any too much but LOVES  his Dad, her grandpa. I love watching them and yes, I supervise the visit. I did not know until recently she is HIS very first grandchild and the love shows. He has grandkids  via children of his wife, but Leah is HIS first. Cannot get over the love between those two. I love to see that.

Washed a load of towels, etc this morning - Got a few other chores run as Shannon decided to show up and actually help by being nice and NO SCREAMING. I can handle that very well. And I was able to leave and do some mandatory purchasing without sweating things. Very, very nice. Still have a couple things to do tomorrow - say a prayer the atmosphere will hold.

I am headed to the kitchen for an eggplant sandwich. Never had one? You do not know what you are missing - that is my dinner. Davey and his MOther are on their on - Cooking is off limits for me tonight. Hmn!

@Winifred

It makes me smile to read about Leah's paternal side of the family.  What a blessing this is.

Regarding the election - I'm kind of glad I hadn't been following all the b.s. up to this point.  At this point, I'm stuck between the devil and the sea regarding my choices.

I don't want to hear to read ugly things about either.  Why can't everyone talk about the qualifications of each person without mud slinging?  What happened to civil discourse and conversation?

We're going to hell in a handbasket in this country.

Re: Bird's Nest for August 2016

Well, I cut my grass (front and back) for the first time in a month.  I bag the clippings and barely filled up one paper lawn clipping bag.  I'm enjoying less humidity a cooler temps while I can - windows are open all over my house.

My youngest female, Presto is going through the molt.  Kind of late to me, it usually happens late spring.

Oh, I forgot to mention this - Poppi is either giving me a birthday present or St. Francis threw me a bone because of what I did with Handsome this week.

Poppi actually groomed his beak and I don't have to trim him this month. This bird is capable of maintaining his own beak - he just does it once a year if I am lucky.  After seeing Handsome on his way out on Monday, I could feel anxiety creeping in (always does) about trimming Poppi's beak this month.  On Wednesday morning, I was playing with Presto and looked up at Poppi and thought my eyes were playing tricks with me.  Two days before he had scissor beak all over his face.  I felt my face to see if I had my glasses on, rofl.

Yep, they were on my face and I did a double take and sure enough - his beak looks perfect.

Poppi likes to mess with my head.

Hi Birding Friends,   The photo above is of one of the Ospreys that keep visiting the Great Horned Owl nest near Savannah.  They've never made a nest or laid eggs  just come and visit and now and then bring some moss or pine needles ???? no clue unless they're too young to have a nest and family.

The last Osprey chich in Maine,  Eric,  fledged this morning.  He just took off and flew.  His brother, Little B,  actually tried to catch a fish, but flopped into the water and then took off.   I was surprised to see him try so soon after he fledged.   Rachel and Steve will still feed these two  I guess maybe the chicks will learn better fishing techniques by watching their parents.

Bernie,  I'm glad the Poppi groomed his own beak so you didn't have to do it.  I am guessing you provide cuttle bones for them to use.  Fruitloop has a cuttlebone but I think she prefers to keep her beak in condition by biting human fingers and earlobes.   She can really ****** hard. I can't imagine having a full grown parrot or macaw biting a finger(off) or an ear lobe.  Talk about piercing ears, free, for big earrings.

Winifred,  I love eggplant,  french fried, cassarole, parmigana. sauteed, but I've never had an eggplant sandwich.  I Googled to see what they had and WOW,  do they look delicious.   I will be having one of them when I get back home to MO. for sure.  My brother likes eggplant, heck all my MO and IL family members like eggplant.  Most of the time it's french fried or just pan fried.    I love baked eggplant too, almost like a dressing.

I agree with you about the political tone in this election year.  I've never seen such a divided country.  It's so polarized and such vicious crimes and language.   I wish we could get back to the way it was after WWll.  Didn't have much, but we had civility and caring about each other. Never needed to lock the doors, kids could play without worring about child predators,  we didn't need to 'carry',   Police were respected, I could go on and on, but will get off my soapbox.  I just miss the 'good old days'.

Have a peaceful and cool rest of your weekend.   I've been watching the Olympics off and on.   Had laundry earlier, but now that's folded and hung so I can sit and watch the games. Cat Very Happy

PS   Welcome home,  Little Mousie!!!  Have a great stay at home and love the pups.!! Heart

Eggplant sandwiches.   Lots more photos, not sure which your sandwich would resemble, Winifred.

Some had what looked like melted cheese and that would be right up my alley.  Love cheese, in any form.

I wonder why those little ****  were put into my post about Fruitloop biting or nipping so hard.  I just noticed that, and guess Webbie did it.

Lol - webbie doesn't like the word ni*

Apparently people get vulgar with it.

@possummink  She's eating leftover pasta right now, lol, and the dogs are so excited, Remmy especially, that he is panting like crazy.

I got in the car to fetch her at the airport, and saw glass on my seat, so looked at the windshield and it had a huge almost hole and was shattered very badly, so ran upstairs to email DD that she had to take a cab.

Last night, I heard a pine cone hit, and it did sound differently from the usual roof hit, so obviously it hit my windshield. DH will take the car in this week for replacement, hope it doesn't cost an arm and a leg, the cab did.  DD took an SF cab, but she didn't know that it costs extra, and the so and so driver never should have agreed to drive out of it's limits at least not without telling the passenger that it would cost so much.
