I've got to fill all of the feeders today.  I'm waiting a few hours until it warms up.  There's still a small amount of seed left for them this morning.

The last few days that have been so cold, all my birds have been waiting for me when I brought their food.  But today’s is almost 40 degrees, and nobody was there this morning when I went out.  There’s been a slow trickle since, but apparently everybody is full!

Those water warming things that people put in bird baths kind of scare me - I am afraid of an electrical short.  Because of that, I've been working overtime this week watching the water bowl and refilling it/topping it off with warm water.  The birds and squirrels seem to like the warm water.  I figure it must make them warm inside like coffee makes me warm inside.

Bernie,   Thank you for our new February perch/nest.   It warmed up a bit today,  and I was able to use the hose in order to fill the bird watering pans instead of carrying 2 gallon containers of fresh water outside, which means the back steps.  Not as well balanced(in more ways than one) as I used to be so I was glad to be able to give the pans a good cleaning and fill them to the brim with clean and fresh water.   The heater I have does keep the water warm.  

Below is a picture of the one I am using.   I have it sitting on a little flat rock to keep it off of the metal as much as possible. 

I just read that it's used to de-ice water for chickens too.
