@ECBG  YES! For me, it's about 3:45 or 4:15. I try different books and different sleeping positions for about an hour and a half, and then I just give up.

@ECBG  That's sure the truth. One night I woke up in the middle of the night trying to remember the name of my second grade teacher.

Mine was a precious nun that was very young.  One day she pulled up her skirts and jumped rope with us.  I've never forgotten it, and I was seven.

I hope she had a good life.Smiley Happy  She was lovely.

I ended up working for the Sisters Of Mercy in another location when DH and I were first married until I got into the school system.

@ECBG  O.M.G- so very true!! I have tried knocking myself out with melatonin, magnesium, potassium, lemon balm, ashwagandha, benadryl, hot milk, a shot of brandy and about a 1000 other things. Ann Landers long ago wrote a wonderful book on insomnia that really helped me at the time. I wish I could remember the name of it, and more importantly the method she recommended. It had something to do with accepting that for those of us who have a battle with sleep, we need to recognize that eventually, sleep wins.
