@Jackhound Mom  You are probably absolutely right.  Never thought of that.  How strange our brains pull up unfinished business after so many years.

Yes Laura,  I was hypnotized (sp?) years ago and said the name of my first friend's name when I was 5.  I had completly forgotten her and it felt like someone had unlocked part of my brain.  Thanks again for your thoughts!

@Jackhound Mom ... How was your experience being hypnotized? I was seeing a therapist and she wanted to hypnotize me but l moved and never had it done. I wish l did though.

I have very scary dreams or l will dream that I'm still working. I know the scary ones are caused by medication l take. I don't have the scary ones enough for my doctor to change my med so....but the ones l have about still working make perfect sense to me....

I worked for 36 years as a senior stenographer in a school district and l couldn't wait until l was 55!! 36 years in a school district.... I know! How DID l survive?!?!

@Jackhound Mom ... I tried to add this to the post l just left for you. I found it very interesting that you found out your friend's name when you were just 5 years old. When you're hypnotized,

I believe they go backwards ...then end up when you were younger. Any significant things you learned...other things you forgot??

I've had two recurring types of dreams for years.  One is that we are either moving or taking a trip, and it's time to leave and I haven't started packing anything.  And, of course I'm in a panic and racing around, and wake up with adrenaline pumping.

The other is one I've had since childhood...and it took many years to realize where it was coming from.  I dream that I'm home, around town, etc., and then I turn a corner and I don't know where I am, or how to get back home.  I usually panic and then wake up.  To understand this, I'll give you a brief background....as an infant, I was taken to live with my aunt and uncle, because my mother became ill.  I lived with them approximately a year and then was returned home.  Anybody see where this dream is coming from?  Would have been nice if I hadn't come from a family who liked to keep secrets because I could have nipped this one in the bud very early on in my life.

However, something recently changed.  I had both of these dreams about a week ago....the packing dream didn't upset me in the least.  And, the lost dream didn't up set me either.  My attitude with that one was "oh well, I'll find a way."  Maybe I'm making progress.......

I know messed up hormones can affect dreams.  For months after my thyroidectomy, I had the worst, and most vivid dreams.  They have also settled down.

I rarely remember dreams.  If I do and it's a weird one, I refuse to let it get to me and forget about it, go on with my day.

The only ones that have stayed with me are the ones I had of my parents and siblings after each of them died.  Only ever dreamt of each of them once since their passing and they were good.

Good Morning East Cost,

@I'm back again.  For some reason I can't get the @ + poster name to work for me, sorry.

Ok, about my one time being hypnotized.  It was back in Michigan about 40 years ago and I was friends with 3 of the local DJ's from our radio station.  Dave was dating Shelly, Doug was single, Steve was married to Laurie and she was a nurce working in a burn unit and studing medicine and later became a doctor.

We all were at Dave & Doug's appartment and Lauri volenteered to hypnotize someone and I said "yes."  She asked me if there was anything I wanted to find out and I asked her to try to find out more about the "professor"  as that was an imagionary friend.

I was on my back on the floor and they recorded what happened. When I woke up my face was wet and I was laughing and asked what did you guys do?  They all looked like they were going to cry.  They said I had been crying, discribing what my dad had done to my feet.  They played the tape and that's when I heard myself spit out my friend's name and answered all Laurie's questions good and bad.

After you go through it you have your memories back that were locked away!  Turns out that the "professor" was a representation of my dad.

I would recommend trying this for anyone who can't remember parts of their past.

Thanks for reading along.

Thanks for writing!  You have figured your dreams out and that is great!  I wonder if you will have them again?  Maybe just as conformation.

That is interesting that after your surgery your dreams were more intense.  Did you have any while under sedation?  I never have that I can remember but I've had friends tell me thay have.

@Jackhound Mom   Nope, never had any dreams under anesthesia.  I chatted with some other thyroidectomy patients on FB who were also having intense dreams.  I think it’s a combination of things.  One is that major surgery is very traumatic physically and emotionally.  For me, I think it was compounded by several months of testing because I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.  I don’t deal well with uncertainty.

Also, I read some medical articles that mentioned hormonal imbalances can cause odd dreams. You don’t get much more unbalanced than when you lose your thyroid gland. And I also remember having some pretty odd dreams when I was pregnant with my now 34 year old daughter.

Last night, I dreamed I was clowning around with Miley Cyrus!  Can't remember many of the details.  She is sort of childlike in real life and certainly in my dream!

@OnlyShopsOnline

I'm sorry you had to have surgery for thyroid cancer.  I'm not sure just what our thyroids do or which kind of hormone they make.  I will look it up after I am off here.  I'm glad you are ok now, right?  By writing I'm sure you have explained many things about how this changed you.  Thank you so much and may you have great health and stay cancer free!  I am not on facebook or I would also look there for info.

Have a great holiday!

Cathy
