Back Fence in September 2017 - will it ever cool off???

Well I could NOT let Bernie whip me on my responsibility - she has the Bird Nest up and running so I figured I had best get my B--t in gear and set up the Back Fence.

Still way too hot our here in Sou Cal - we are scorching. = do NOT like this nasty stuff. Rain came down in torrents for a while this afternoon and of course it is hotter than you know what AGAIN. We are not expected to cool down much - if any - for a spell now. Do not like that Could not sleep last night - even with the ACs running - I do not like to run them 24/7, I was soaking wet with sweat the entire night. The little ones also had trouble.Took Davey to school in Redlands this a.m. as so early we had lightning and thunder and at that time only a small amount of rain but you never know about those storms. Had to get the little ones up but they did well.

Am going to hang some misters up - they work miracles in super hot weather. One can sit out with them with that water mist and you are cool as a cucumber - literally. You see them a lot in Palm Springs at many restaurants there - otherwise no one could eat outside. And the temps tehre are often if not most of the time as LOT WORSE than here.

Have a great day  tomorrow!!

@Winifred  Have you ever tried sleeping with a wet, rung out, small towel around your neck or wherever?  It is the only way I can survive and sleep during the hot weather, that and the fan blasting on me all night.

Maybe you need a ceiling fan in the bedrooms since you say the AC isn't working very well.  We put one in DD's room when she was little, and it is wonderful, and when she is home, I can hear it whizzing away.  I wanted one in the master, but DH doesn't like it whizzing over him, LOL, so I have a tall standing fan aimed at me. Smiley Happy

It has already cooled down nicely here in New Mexico. We're in our monsoon season, and, although it doesn't rain often any one place, it rains somewhere almost every day which keeps the temps down.  It's in the 80s most days, in low 60s or high 50s at night.

Tomorrow evening is the annual burning of Zozobra, Old Man Gloom, at a park in Santa Fe.  They build a huge ugly paper figure, people write their troubles on slips of paper which are put inside, then they burn the whole thing.

State Fair starts next week-end, then the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta starts the first week of October. Woo-hoo!   My favorite time of year.

Glad to see Sept fence is up and buzzing. I like the idea of burning up all the gloomy problems.

My former boss lives in Albuquerque.  He often talks of the balloon lifts.

Sorry you are so hot, Freddie.  We are having unseasonably cool weather.  Wish I could share with you.

Somewhere i picked up a pesky head cold.  Monday and Tuesday was drip drip day and now it is trying to keep my lungs clear.   No one else in the family has this. I don't know where it came from bit I'd like to give it back.

I feeling your pain. Here in Utah we have had record heat all summer, but the last few days it starting to cool off at night so I can open the bedroom sliding door and get a little fresh air. A god send for me.

Re: Back Fence in September 2017 - will it ever cool off???

Thanks for getting the back fence up and running for September Freddie @Winifred.

Here in SE Michigan we are having temps in the 70's.  Overall, compared to last year, we got less rain this year from June on.

We did get quite the downpour in the evening at the beginning of the week.  There was a flood warning for my county that I didn't even flinch at having seen what Texas is going through with Harvey.  I was not going to complain if I had to go into the basement and mop up a little rain water.

It didn't flood by me.  I watched the downpour from the front of the house, upstairs (where my home office is) and I sure didn't see much rain rolling into the street down the sewers.  The earth was just taking it in.

Am in hog heaven seeing so many join us at the Back Fence. We are hoping you come back, By the way, for you newcomers, we are a little piggy as we love for people to bring some food over our way. LOL. By the way, I know it is still hot -  but at any rate have brought over some raisin cinnamon bagels - put out by Aldi's - the best place to buy a lot of things. Also have some ice tea. Now in case you are thinking I am nuts, it was 112 today - disgusting - so it was hot but you can enjoy the ice tea. Easier to bring things to munch on if it is cooler - I wish!!!!!!

Hope one and all come back and join us frequently - we LOVE it. For any newcomer this thread started  20 plus years ago - great people started it and so sad we have lost many of them but we keep getting new ones - keep it up!!

Have been fighting a cold or something for a week.  Now it seems hubby has it too.  Don't know what it is but it wipes you out.   Our eyes seem to be ok. I read at the nest about all the eye problems.   As long as I sit upright I do pretty good.

Still have some coughing spells.  At least we have a long weekend with nothing urgent going on so we will rest.

I probably should get dressed but pjs are very comfy.  Merle has a flannel shirt on.  The old folks living it up.

Betty @yock

Just be careful and watchful for the occasional fever and anything and I mean anything besides the morning sleep-eeze in your eyes.

I'm still wearing a white t-shirt and some gray yoga pants so you are not alone in being dressed comfortably.  Yoga pants and some kind of tee - be it short sleeved, 3/4 sleeved or long sleeved is my standard uniform unless I have to leave the house :-)

@Winifred, I needed to be reminded how good Aldi's is.  Their hours don't always fit with my shopping times but I need to utilize them more.
