Re: August 2015 - Bird's Nest

Bernie,  This is the car along with quite a few others that just got caught  in the torrential downpours.   I think the news said that August 1 record had been broken.   They showed a graph with 4.3 inches, if I remember the 10ths correctly.  It rained this morning and part of the afternoon.  More on the way.  Tides have a lot to do with the flooding, if it's high tide there's not much room for run off from the streets.   Downtown needs to put in a few retention ponds around the lower areas.

Anyone know this bird?  I found it looking for something else and it was captioned "Panure à moustaches."

Re: August 2015 - Bird's Nest

Puddles, I have no clue what that bird is. Very unusual but also very pretty. Lots of pretty birdies pictured here already.

Possum, that is way too much water at one time for sure. While we are always wishing for rain, and more rain, that much at one time can be disastrous.

That huge - but fast - storm we had on Friday has turned things green. Unfortunately nothing popped up in all the dirt areas however so while the little stuff is green, still a lot of open spots where we had only dirt so the lawn - if you can call it that - is still ragged.

Yesterday was very uncomfortable - again!!!!! August and September are normally our worse months so am dreading this based on what we have already had. Sigh. Woman Sad

Went to Kohls yesterday and spent too much money. Desperately needed a new set of sheets so got those, got Davey some extra long t-shirts to hide his but - t so hopefully he will wear them and they do the trick. LOL. Also a couple other things.

Church was good yesterday and had lunch afterwards with my friend who use to go to church with me - she stopped going some months back after the trouble there. She has started going to another church but she does not like it so suspect she will not continue. She is so disillusioned about church and religion right now. Well I went to both churches which disintegrated within a year of each other but it has not stopped me from staying at one where such bad behavior occurred. Those responsible did NOT stay and that is why I am, and am hoping it will survive. The Pastor who did resign will be leaving - he had already resigned and we have another Pastor who was my former Pastor at another church and is great, but the minister at this church felt the cloud over him was too great to try and get the church going again. He is probably correct and I think it is terrible the price he has had to pay when he did nothing wrong. He and his wife sold their home and are leaving for Arizona where they have children.  Will miss them.

Have a hummer who is continuing to hang out and sure eats a lot. While I am so delighted to see him I sure miss the many who use to be here. Still cannot figure out why they have almost all disappeared. They are so precious flitting about and we sure use to have a lot of them.

Hope all have a great day.

@Puddles

The bird is a Bearded Reedling (commonly known as the bearded t*it).

There are many elements: wind, fire, water
But none quite like the element of surprise

@possummink

Oh Possum, that picture brings back memories of the great flood of 2014.  Actually tomorrow 8-11, is the one year anniversary.  Here are some photos from our flood of a year ago:

This is actually a freeway that flooded up to the overpass
