I have this in my foot due to injury.   I soak it in epsom salts and that is helpful plus eating anti inflammatory diet.  I put australian dream cream on and it is very helpful if you use it as many times a day as the directions indicate!.

Arthritis is quite common in feet. Good fitting shoes. I spend most of my life in running shoes. Avoid high heels.

Did you Google?  Looks like a lot of info out there ...

My cousin has gout (a form of arthrtis) and it's extremely painful.  I don't know what her doctor is treating it with ... but she seems to get around okay.

@bikerbabe  I agree here with bikerbabe, but want to add that arthritis usually hurts worse on awakening, so give yourself 30 minutes before you try to ambulate too much. Then keep up walking.  Ask your doctor about exercises you should perform in order to relieve the arthritis.  There are 30 joints in the feet which can have arthritis.  There are OTC medications you can take and prescription medications.  Exercise and staying active is wonderful.  Try wearing ortho shoes.  I don't do all these things but I do most of them.  I have an issue with wearing ortho shoes.  I do like pointy-toe heels and I do suffer silently in them.  For me, more often than not, beauty knows no pain but I expect at some point in my life, I will succumb to comfortable shoes which I wear at home and when I am grocery shopping, etc., but for social occasions, church, etc., I still wear heels and suffer the consequences, which hurts more after than it does during the time I wear them.

@Goldengate8361    I have arthritis everywhere ( both knees and hip replaced). Thankfully not in my feet.....and I have thought about that when I am out walking... sorry to hear of your pain.

Good socks for preventing friction....inserts with extra cushion for the balls  of your feet and your heels.....and I highly recommend. A gel rub on called

Tri Flora. It was the best pain reliever for my poor knees prior to replacement.  It is homeopathic based. CFDDC06A-0665-4375-AB7B-4287AEE2B790-91875-0000503FF2210364.jpg

Nonsurgical methods to treat foot and ankle arthritis include:
  • Steroid medications injected into the joints.
  • Anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce swelling in the joints.
  • Pain relievers.
  • Pads or arch supports.
  • Canes or braces to support the joints.
  • Inserts that support the ankle and foot (orthotics)
  • Physical therapy.
  • Custom shoes.

I would suggest seeing a rheumatologist to have this evaluated.  You mentioned that 2 doctors have told you it could be arthritis but a specialist can tell you if it is and what type.  I have rheumatoid arthritis in my hands/fingers and osteoarthritis in my knees. As someone else suggested, an injection may help also.  Good luck.

Catty2: I would suggest seeing a rheumatologist to have this evaluated.  They can tell you if it is arthritis and what type it is and possibly recommend a medication to help.  I have rheumatoid arthritis and have been on medication for years.  As someone else suggested, an injection may help also.  Good luck.

Poster stated she has been evaluated by 2 MD's & she did NOT specify if she has rheumatoid arthritis. Could be OA.
