We live in a 400 unit condo complex, it's all ages. There are some children. I love where I live but some of the community events have died out due to lack of interest. Very few attended the hot dog and icream party this year. Last Christmas we canceled the balcony decoration contest due to lack of participation. We usually do an afternoon or early evening Halloween party for kids but attendance has been dwindling over the years. We might do it this year. I think people change over the years. That sense of community isn't as strong as it once was. I think people are just closer to and more bonded to their families, friends, even coworkers than they are to neighbors.

@I am still oxox

Not having ever lived in multi-family developments or lived on the East Coast, celebrating a condo's 85th birthday doesn't make a lot of sense to me. The residents coming together for a party/dinner does make sense but not to celebrate the opening of an 85 year old building. Is it a historic building or on historic land? When I was a child and we lived in Suburbia we would have block parties in the summer. Kids would decorate their bikes and parents would organize games for the kids and bring food. That was so much fun! Sorry your plans fell through.

We moved in to our brand new home that we helped build and by we I mean hubby, with our brand new baby 44 years ago. No condos around here. My neighbors are horses and cows.

@monicakm Why not any chance to celebrate is good with me. It is not a building it is a multi unit garden apt developement that happens to be a condo. The party was free and was supposed to be at our community lake

I have to agree with the others that state celebrating an 85th anniversary for a condo seems strange.  I know it is not something I would attend.  I would have better things to do in the Autumn season.  We are very busy during Autumn.   85years is not so much when we live in a 150+ year old home.  Nothing I would get worked up about.

@Rockycoast It was an occasion for neighbors to come together and celebrate the lovely life we have here
