My MIL used to make that. My DH says it is called Gurkensalat (sp.) Maybe you can find the recipie you are looking for with that name.

Yes, grew up on it. Just peel your cucumber preferably an english cucumber, slice very thin and a sweet onion such as a vidalia onion then very thin also and slt , place in frig for about a 1/2 hour at least, covered , remove from frig add about 2 tablespoos of sour cream and about 1 tablespoon of miracle whip per cucumbers. And chill for time to eat.

@Andreatoo, sorry - I missed your question. The cream or 1/2 & 1/2 is just used straight out of the container. I don't remember it with the cream, but my grandma always made it that way (according to my mom). I've always made it with the 1/2 & 1/2....and probably not as rich! My DH grew up with the sour cream method, but I can't get used to that. I prefer the creamy taste, and no - it's not thick....not meant to be!

My husband is enjoying the I told you so opportunity! LOL I think I'm going to try it both ways but both will be with some fresh dill because that's one thing we can agree on.
He's pretty insistent that there were no onions so those are being left off the cream version too

@Andreatoo I think your husband's right about onions not being in the sour cream version. That's how my grandmother and mother made it. I add onions because it's one of my husband's favorite food group.

My mother was German and cucumber salad was very simple. Slice the cucumbers thin into a bowl, add vinegar and oil, that's about it. I haven't made a salad with cucumbers for ages but in my younger years I did and it probably is the easiest and most simple dish there is to make.

I'd look under "Allrecipes". My MIL did those too, and were delish. They have some on that site, I copied and want to try. Now I have to find them. LOL
Think there's vinegar in there too.

Yes oil and vinegar is simple but that's not the cucumber salad we're talking about

search for gurkensalat
This is where I'm starting! The ingredients sound right to me.
Then I'm going to try it with cream instead of sour cream and without the onions to make my husband happy! LOL

@Andreatoo ...I don't know of any other kind of cucumber salad, please give me a hint of what you are talking about, thanks.
