This afternoon I went downstairs to the washroom and the floor is soaking wet. I put new hoses on it about 2 yrs ago. My grandson came and looked at it after he pulled it away from the wall. He said the hoses are dry and don't appear to be leaking. So I'm thinking it might be the water pump or something inside the washer. Then I'm thinking is it worth it to have a repairman fix it or just buy a new washer. It's about 9 or 10, but I don't use it very often. It's a Maytag front loader and I've never been very fond of it. I want my old Kenmore with the agitator back lol
What's your experience?

The last we fixed our HE machine I SWORE it would be the last time we ever paid to fix an appliance!! Too much time and money wasted.
I now have a regular top-loading machine with an agitator and I was reminded how nice it was to have clean clothes again! No more HE for me!

I hear ya. That's what I want too, but there's several other things I'd rather buy first.

For what we paid to fix our water pump I could have bought a new washer EASILY! It was not inexpensive and the washer was 7 years old. A few years later another machine.....bottom line we should have never paid to fix it- dump and RUN!

Do you have a home warranty? I have a basic home warranty which I added my appliances to, since they are older, like my home. It costs me $75 when something breaks, although I do have to pay for freon when my A/C breaks down. If the item cannot be repaired, they buy you a new one. You might want to check into it for future. I have a whirlpool (which is also Kenmore) and have called Sears repair once for my washer and once for my dryer. I think it was about $100 plus parts. My washer and dryer are 26 years old and running great. Hope this helps.![]()

@Abrowneyegirl Amen! What brand do you have now?

If it's 9 or 10 years old, you're not that fond of the front load and can afford it, I would buy a new one.

I don't know about Maytags, but my front loader has a filter at the bottom in the front of the washer that has a tendency to clog up if I wash certain items. Simple to pull out and drain.

If u have the booklet, see what is causing it to flood. If u don't have it, check out the brand on-line - or call the 800#.
I never repair big appliances after 6-7 years -- I buy new.
When a repairman comes down - the minimum is always $200 (for a minor repair) - and more expensive for a bigger repair. Also - realize most of these repairman will try to scam u - I've been taken too many times. Now - I'm very smart - after seeing repair people on shows like 20/20, Dateline, 60 Minutes.
Best to buy NEW - and you'll have a warranty. With Costco - u get a 2 year warranty.
Four years ago, I bought the Whirlpool Cabrio, HE, 4.3 cu ft - top loader. I love it!!!!!

My 30 year old Admiral washer in the basement has leaked for many years. We sloped the concrete floor and installed several drains, so the water runs out and isn't an issue.
This washer is only used for work clothes, shoes, rugs, and the fleece my daughter uses for her guinea pigs. We certainly got a great deal for our money on this washer, and will be sad when it finally dies.
