@Katcat1-----I am a through and through New Englander and have been shopping at the VCS since I was a toddler.......My family's go to general store when we wintered in Vt.

I now have my own winter home about 20 miles outside of Weston and I am at the VCS every couple of days all winter. The rest of the year I mail order.

Quality is usually great but EVERYTHING is returnable AT ANY TIME so if something doesn't hold up, get a refund. Food refunds are handled the same way that the Q does.....no questions, no hassles which is why my family and I have been consistent customers for 70 years.

@Katcat1

I shop with them quite often thru the catalog.  I've never been disappointed in anything I've ever ordered.  They have magnificent bedspreads that you can't find anywhere else these days.  Pricey, but worth every penny.  I watch for free shipping and have quite a list by then.

Yes, I have purchased Lanz nightgowns for my granddaughters

and another daughter-in-law.

I have also purchased really great, thick, shower cutains for a beach house. Everything excellent quality.  It is a pleasure shopping from VCS.

sooner, I guess you and I are the only ones who didn't have a good experience with them. I ordered  a (beautiful) nightgown; they goofed my order up and Customer "Service" was very hard to deal with. At first the woman sounded like she didn't have a clue what I was talking about then she tried to get me to buy something else--AFTER I'd returned the nightgown at considerable cost.

At that point I threw up my hands in defeat and haven't bought from them since.

I had a similar experience. They informed me that the items I ordered from their web site were not in stock and it would be 60 days before they could ship them. Then they sent me items I did not order. Then they sent me items that were not in my size. Then they sent me old stock from one of their stores that was not at all like the items I ordered. I felt like I got sucked into some bizarre customer service purgatory. Many phone calls and several letters were involved.

Eventually everything was straightened out, but I vowed to never order from them again.

I call this the Nostalgia Store for Old People.  You can find Tangee lipsticks, licorice gum, Necco candy, Evening in Paris "perfume," etc.  Some of this stuff pre-dates my mother and I am 73.  Great place for quality flannel nightgowns, especially Eileen West.  Lanz is second.  I even get DH flannel nightshirts from them, he hates pajamas.

I ordered a fleece bed jacket because the length of a robe was too warm for me in the winter.  It's very nice, however, their SH is very high.  Owned by two brothers.

@ECBG

I agree the shipping is very high. When they do have free shipping, you must spend $75.

I get their catalog in the mail and enjoy looking through it; not many places still send out real catalogs; would love to visit their store; looks amazing...I ordered some candy and some sheets from them a few years ago; good quality although a little pricey. I like seeing the products that are no longer sold anywhere else....fun!

I ordered a flannel robe from them a couple of years ago.  I think it was Lanz.  It wasn't as soft as I remember Lanz being, and it didn't have a loop for hanging.  I wore it for a short while and gave it away.

I, just recently, bought a set of queen percale sheets.  Kinda expensive, 109.95, but they are percale and nice quality.  I will buy more when I can afford it Smiley Happy

Several months ago, I ran across percale sheets that I used when I was a teenager (I am retired). When I was cleaning out my parents house, I used the sheets and towels to pack dishes, glass etc.

The set of sheets looked like they were still new. They were still a bright white with pink embrodery trim. I have been using the sheets and pillowcases ever since. I still can't get over how old they are and in what beautiful shape they are in.

Maybe it is time to check out the percale sheets at Vermont Country Store. Thanks for mentioning it.

Agree with posters who stated their items are pricey and their shipping is expensive, but you can't beat the quality of their merchandise.  Never had a problem with customer service--they stand behind their products.  I've often bought perfumes there that you can't find anymore, and their food/candy items are unique and nostalgic.  I've bought from them from time to time for over 15 years.  Definitely recommend if their prices/S&H aren't too off-putting for you.
