@monicakm

The only thing thst comes to mind is the way florists (?) preserve wedding dresses. They are not displayed exactly, but they are preserved so that the fabric remains intact, etc.

The hat I can definitely see as preserved in a shadow box.
Beautiful items....I know you must be a very loving daughter.❤️

My dad was in WWII in the Navy. I wore his wool his navy bottom pants ...the ones with buttons at the sides...then I took them off to college and lost track of them.

I wish I had preserved his navy items while I had them.

@monicakm   Have you thought about having a professional photographer take a picture of this uniform  and hat and beautifully frame it? You then can store  as a wedding dress (as someone mentioned), but still be able to savior the memories by having the photo on the wall.

BTW, I spend a small fortune having my paintings framed for sale or to go to the gallery. The last one which was 3 1/2 feet by 2 1/2 feet cost $600 with a double matte and frame...at a discount Frame Warehouse!!

Yes, this makes so much more sense.  It will fit in places better and it's visually more interesting.  I may have dad's captain wings and epaulets in a box with some other things I haven't looked at yet.  Those could be displayed as well.   When dad started flying for Braniff, the suits were navy.  When they changed over to this beautiful light chocolate brown, I thought they stood out from all the other airlines. It was the Halston era.  Pilot suits, stewardesses and plane interiors.  What memories!

No, I have not thought of that.  I think I'm going to store the jacket and have the hat framed.

I still feel the pain deeply. Many days I still cry . Just hearing a song he would sink and I am crying. I truly believe you never get over loss. Yes, there are memories but that also brings tear. now I am STORMIN HEAVEN for YOU, your Mom and DADDY. Know you are in our thought. Always, Sligo

@monicakm   I think the cap/hat will look great in a shadow box...did he have any other things that were important to him from his career?  Tickets, photo of him in the uniform, etc.?

Years ago my granddaughter about 1 years old had her photo taken in an antique dress that was my mom's.  I had the dress put into a shadow box...not sure where it is right now, hopefully gd's mom did not discard it,  Don't think I will ask, I might be heartbroken.
