@Justice4all   My Mum went on about her noises for over a year - had hearing tests, etc, nothing showed up.  In desperation I took her to a Harley Street private specialist - in U.K. This location is where the best Drs/specialists, etc practice - he diagnosed her in about 10 mins was very kind  sat with her, held her hand.  Only one visit but we were set so it was worth paying for.  She never experienced this again.

 For us it was worth it as this was going on and on.

My mother in her late 70’s complained all the time of hearing noises.  She lived on her own my father had passed.  After months of this and no solution I took her to a hearing specialist.

He could find nothing wrong but suggested that my mother, living on her own, was probably not eating and cooking as she used to when Dad was with her.  Sure enough found out she was just eating whatever came easiest- toast, bit of cereal, etc.  she never cooked meat or vegetables any more.

After a time of us supervising her diet daily-  noises all disappeared.  It is very important for seniors to eat properly as we found out and people on their own sometimes just do not bother.  Just a thought.

This is fascinating!

I agree.  It really is!

Many of us will talk to you @halfpint1. I certainly am perplexed by the noises that seem to have no cause.

Her husband took care of everything for her.

She's feeling deep grief & anxiety.

She's living in a world she's never experienced before, as a widow myself, I certainly understand.    Those first few years were brutal, I thought I was losing my mind.

@dulwich,

I so agree with nutrition, and hydration, playing a huge part in an elderly parents health.

My mother drinks coffee and water and thinks she’s well hydrated.   When I showed her visually how much fluid she needed to drink every day for hydration, she knew she was not drinking enough.

I buy Gatorade and different juices to entice my mother to drink more.   She loves white grape, pineapple-orange, and V-8 juice, and mom is more alert and productive when she’s drinking juice.   She doesn’t usually tell me when she’s out, but I can tell just by talking to, and watching her.    My brother and SIL take mom for groceries, and I tell them to put at least 4 bottles of juice in the cart every month, besides what I carry in.

Mom would live on cookies, cake, and pie if we weren’t watching closely.   She doesn’t want to cook, and ruins a lot of what she tries to cook.  I make breakfast casseroles, send plates of our leftovers, make meatloafs and soups like split pea and lentil that she has never made, and entice her with macaroni and spaghetti salads to keep her weight up.

My mom can say she’s doing fine, but my brothers and I know different.

Riaght now tonight I am going crazy with the sound I hear and it is not stopping. So loud and I don't know what to do. They said I had a hearing loss and just have the middle. Have another visit in 2 weeks but the noise is awful. Going ionto my bedroom where there the noise machine to maybe drown this out is louder.

Sorry this is happening.

Could you try a radio on low to block and destract from it!?

One of my dog’s snored, and sometimes I played NPR.

Think you live in a cold area, and hope you are starting warm.

@RedTop

I don't understand what you mean.

Why does it matter where she lives?
