Thanks for the comments about my post.  I think it's helpful for all of us to remember positive self-talk.

Those who find joy and get their kicks from posting inflammatory or negative comments only shed light on their own character and they really don't inform us about their target at all.  When someone needs to resort to personal attacks, they've just told us they have nothing to contribute (hence my signature quote.)  It's not clever, and it's not admirable, to show up on threads and try to mock or demean someone else -- it's easy and immature, and fortunately most people left these tactics on the playground when they moved from childhood to adulthood.   I try to remember the adage, "hurt (adjective) people hurt (verb) people."   People who have been hurt sometimes have a tendency to strike out at others.   So, while I'll never condone hurtful comments or attempts to cause upset, I feel sorry for those who do it.

Thank you posting!  Very inspirational and well said.

@dooBdoo, you are very intelligent.  I love your signature quote.

My Dad lived by the saying "to thine ownself be true" and he taught me to be that way also.  Kind of balanced out my mother always making negative comments to me.  Even though her comments weighed heavily on me, I never changed my character for anyone.

@dooBdoo, I just did a google search on Red Haircrow.  Got to his FB page. AMAZING and SHOCKING the thinks I read on the reservation situations.  The thinks you can learn.  So much we don't know.

Re: Among Friends

Oh, @Karnerblue, thanks for the kind words, but I'm just the "average bear."Smiley  When I post or talk to others, I try to think about how the words would be received -- and how I would feel if they were directed at me -- and that helps.  I don't always succeed, but I try.

I'm glad you like the quote and I like your dad's philosophy, too.  This is another quote which has helped me a lot, and I think it's appropriate for these forums since so much of the threads are about beauty.  Makeup, lotions, serums, creams, devices, hair products, supplements, diets, or fashion don't really create genuine beauty.

For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run their fingers through it once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.
People, more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed.

Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms.
As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helping others.”

(quote by Sam Levenson, though often attributed to Audrey Hepburn)

I definitely think that things can be taken the wrong way when we are already emotionally depleted or have been conditioned to expect as much.

@Karnerblue you are a sensitive soul and I feel a kinship with you.  Among Friends is typically the gentler forum, but some people are bored and have kicked it up in Community Chat, so they come over here.   Best just to ignore their responses and not try to justify anything to them or even get snarky back to them.  That's my 2 cents.

In the post about your husband, many are concerned for you, as i am, you said you had been in a marriage before, that he abused you, sometimes we go to that same type of relationship, because of it is what we know.

That's true,  and very perceptive, @Lady Elaine.  Sometimes when we're emotionally depleted we also might post in a way we otherwise would not.
