This a.m. on the weather channel There was a report from someplace in N.J. about the whole area pitching in an caring by cleaning up and supplying needs. The people doing the work were residents, students, teachers, everyone together wheither rich or poor, black or white, Americans. One student had his house burn down. That is America! Washington better not take credit or even acknowledge. They took it on themselves. What a lesson to uphold for our young people and all of us. Wish the world really know us as we really are not as Washington projects. What a joy!

I was in a flood 10 years ago. I had to evacuate for more than a week. When I returned..the American Red Cross had left a bin of cleaning supplies and a case of water on the porches of everyone in the neighborhood. About 10 Members of the local college football team also came to my house the day I returned and pumped my basement which had 6 feet of water. Other college students helped within the neighborhood as well. Each one was a volunteer and happy to help in any way. In addition, another local religious agency volunteered to come in and sanitize the basements. All the neighbors came together to help in anyway they could. I could not have done any of this on my own. It was a bad experience for me...but an example of good caring people coming together in a time of need. I am thankful for all of them.

@matty liz Mullica Hill, N.J. The residents suffered a direct hit from a EF 4 tornado.

@matty liz If you live in a hurricane prone area this is what we always do. Floridians, Texans. Louisianans, etc all come together to help one another after a bad storm. I would expect the same from people in NJ and NY.

It's unfortunate that only the bad/sad news makes the headlines in about every source of media. Any of us that have lived quite a few decades knows, and has known, this has always been our America.
It is too bad it takes tragedies to make the biggest news stories!

I'm sorry but I disagree. In my city the news people not only report on the good people who help their neighbors aside from the tragedies, but some of them go out and help. Please don't generalize all news people together. And as for the national news, that is what they are supposed to report and some of those people also go out and help others. Give'em a break.

Good topic.
Give credit where it's due .. American citizens from all walks of life helping & caring. In my opinion, they usually do .. some news outlets report it, others don't. I think of it as the "American Spirit."
I think there are some in Washington that truly do good deeds .. as for the others ... well, I won't go there. ![]()

Good morning @hckynut
So true!
Before I saw your post, I posted something similar to yours. I'm pleased to see "positive" reports or articles for a change. I'll never understand why caring & good deeds get buried in the news. What the heck is wrong with them. Instead, too many focus on negative, negative. That's enough to bring some peoples' spirits down. Positive thoughts & rallying around needed causes bring the spirits up. But, hey, that's my opinion.
