I, also, do favors for people frequently and while I don't expect "gratitude," I do expect civility if - on the very rare occasion - I ask them to do something for me.  If they don't even think they need to answer me, I find that beyond rude.

 

And if I had accommodated a hairdresser for years in blowing dry my own hair - so that she could serve someone else or herself and then the one time I had a special occasion and I asked her to blow dry it and she got "snippy" I would be done for sure.

Maybe they just don't want to help and she feels awkward telling you. I would just let it go and not hold it against her, if you are happy with her haircuts.
