I put in a check in a envelope and put in the mail slip addressed to my mail carrier that day we were away. The mail came and for a few days we did not get the usual thank you as we get every year for at least five years. yesterday saw a mail delivering the mail to me . I asked him if he delivered mail on Mondays he said yes, I told him that I know he took that envelope and did not give it to Lindsay who we wanted it to go to in the first place and what a 'krappy" thing to do. He turned red I said you did not get away with anything. And I reported it. I was able to go into the bank and stop the check. He messed with the wrong women.

I live in a condo with a bank of mail boxes on the main road. I never see my mail carrier, they deliver mail during the day when I'm at work. I have no idea if the same person sorts the mail or if it rotates. That's very nice of you to show appreciation, and cool that your were able to intercept the gift that got into the wrong hands.

That is so nice of you to think about your mail carrier every year. Good for you to confront the person who took her gift.

Mail carriers aren't allowed to accept cash, checks or generic gift cards for any amount.
If it's a gift card it has to be to a specific retailer and under $20.

If you wnted it to go to a specific person, then you should hand it to that specific person. Mail deliveries are "all men on deck" this time of year and you should not expect someone to hand deliver it for you.

@apple1964Giving money to your mailcarrier might seem like a good thing to do but mailcarriers cannot accept money gifts and could be suspended or loose their jobs for doing so. Reporting it could get him in trouble. When I worked the regular mail carrier that we had for years and was so nice got suspended for 2 weeks for accepting money gifts. I don't think the money gifts were enough to cover the 2 week salary loss.accepting monetary gifts. Our mail person thanked us but returned a gift card we got him one year because he said they couldn't accept such things. He did love the cookies I gave him though and said stuff like that is ok.

Is that rule stated somewhere? We give our regular mail lady $25 in a Christmas card each year.

WOW .. I did not know this. Is this in every state? I live in NJ. If that is the case she should have told me that. I have been doing this for five years now. Thank you for the heads up I will stop this now. And have a chat with her also.
That is what I get for begin nice all these years.![]()

Yes, that was what I should have done.. but, we were busy and we were away. And I only could do it this way. But, not anymore. Thanks to one member here who left that helpful post.

Here it is from the USPS site:
Under these federal regulations, carriers are permitted to accept a gift worth $20 or less from a customer per occasion, such as Christmas. However, cash and cash equivalents, such as checks or gift cards that can be exchanged for cash, must never be accepted in any amount. Furthermore, no employee may accept more than $50 worth of gifts from any one customer in any one calendar year period.
