My guess would be the cat died from old age.  I've never attributed human emotions to animals.  I've had a steady stream of pets my entire life and never had one exhibit any sadness when another died or left the household.  If I was imaginative, I could have conjured up some symptoms but truthfully, I never saw any.

@Kachina624, I have to respectfully disagree. I've told this story here not long ago but shortly after my husband died, I took my dog to the cemetery. My dog has never been good on a leash, despite my best efforts, but as soon as we got out of the truck, he was dragging me, running and running and then he suddenly stopped and flopped down right smack on my husband's grave. He just laid there. I hadn't stopped him as he was the one leading me. He didn't stop at any other grave. He knew exactly where to go, even though I'd not taken him there before. I let him stay there a bit and visit and then we went home but I feel that animals do grieve. I've heard of other stories as well. Nobody will ever convince me that they don't grieve.

@ECBG, prayers for Andrea's DH. That's a lot to deal with all at once.

Re: Additional Prayers For Andrea's DH

@Qgirl26. I recall reading years ago  about a former President's dog going to his grave after he died . I believe it was a Scottie dog. Maybe someone can verify the story? I can not remember the President mentioned?

Thank you for sharing your story. I have heard animals grieve the loss of their young, so they do in fact grieve death. Animals are different like us, some show more emotion than others.

Sending good wished to Andrea’s husband.  I hope he has friends and loved ones near.

Yes,  I will pray for Amanda's husband. The loss of a wife (with yet more sadness) doesn't make it easier. Maybe, just maybe, Andrea and her cat are together again.

I rather imagine the cat died from old age.... but still...I believe animals do show sadness or grief. Maybe not in the same way humans would but there is much proof out there that they do.

Megan, her daughter said she had issues with poisoning in her kidneys.  When I spoke to Andrea on a the phone she said she wouldn't take chemo.

The post is about a month back in this thread.

Re: Additional Prayers For Andrea's DH

It matters not how old the cat was or how it died.  It is the loss on top of the loss of Andrea.  They lived together in that home for decades and now both are gone.

Re: Additional Prayers For Andrea's DH

I once had two doberman pinschers that were inseparable. One past away one October 3rd due to seizures, the second 10 days later from a broken heart. He was not the same dog after losing his shadow.
