Re: ALL MASKED OR NOT WORKING

For anyone interested, here is an article from the New England Journal of Medicine.  It discusses how respiratory droplets are spread with just talking.

But it also has a video with tagged droplets showing the emission of those droplets from someone without a mask and with a mask.  It is a really short video, but it is very good at demonstrating of how just talking can spread the virus.

Here is the link: Visualizing Speech-Generated Oral Fluid Droplets with Laser Light Scattering

My DH & I aren't wearing masks, either...so far, the cases are pretty low in our state, and extremely low in our area. I do see a very few people wearing them, mostly in the grocery store.

However, I did just order some masks from an Etsy seller that someone here recommended. They are 3 layers of cotton, and she has a lot of cute prints, too. Told DH we'd keep them in the car, just in case.

@vermint When I get out of the car, I put my mask on the dash.  If you'll think of how hot your steering wheel gets in the sun, I figure the mask will get just as hot.  Can't hurt for sure!Smiley Happy

@ECBG  Oh, good idea, I'll remember that! Honestly, I just bought one for each of us, and unless the number of cases in our area goes up a lot, I don't plan on wearing one...UNLESS it's required in a store.

How can people say they have very few cases??  Are they testing everyone??  The folks in SD said the same thing until it exploded at the Smithfield plant that had to be shut down.

I was just about to say the same.  It doesn't matter how many people have tested positive in a particular area because the numbers are not accurate.  Many people have/had Covid, and were not tested.  And even if the numbers were accurate, people in an area with a low number of cases should be doing everything they can to keep that number from rising.

Social distancing has been proven to work. IMO everyone should be doing it and taking this seriously. No one should have a false sense of security just because their area is not a hot spot now.  We all should be assuming that everyone we come into contact with could be a carrier, no matter where we live.

This is one reason that we are all still in quarantine. Some of these families feel the rules don't apply to them. How annoying to see parents with children, clumped together and not wearing masks! The stores should not allow them to enter, period. China made it a rule to wear face masks and their population complied.

Agreed!  I haven't been in a supermarket since early March, but friends in other states tell me they see entire families shopping together.  There's no reason for two parents and a bunch of kids, especially when they're wandering all over the store.  It should ideally be one adult, in and out quickly.  Shopping is not supposed to be recreational now.

In my area, stores are strict about masks.  If you're not wearing one, you can't go in.  Period.  There are signs on the doors, and they mean it.  The spread needs to be stopped, and entitled people are getting in the way of that and putting all of us in danger.

@Boehm Collector, we live in the epi-center (N.Y.) and my husband when he went to get my prescriptions said that no one but him was wearing a mask. He said he saw a few mask wearers in the supermarket but very few.  I guess they need to enforce these kinds of things otherwise people do whatever they want.

@Trinity11    Before it became mandatory in NJ to wear masks very few people did.   Now I never see anyone in stores without them.  With NY being the epi-center of the virus I don't understand why people would not wear masks after it became mandatory.  I think the staff in the stores should be inforcing the rule.

Re: ALL MASKED OR NOT WORKING

A friend mentioned there were a few babies with their "mom's" in the Aldi she shopped at last week. We just passed 2,300 deaths in my tri-county area so this sighting is inexcusable. I asked her why she didn't call 9-11. Some people are oblivious, to each their own, but why subject an infant to this scourge?

I’m in Texas and in our County Masks are mandatory every where except in your home and while driving. They give tickets if you’re not wearing one.

Also, only two people per vehicle, if more than two, everyone gets a ticket.

The funniest thing I've seen lately are videos/pictures of people protesting stay at home orders while wearing masks.  One can't fix stupid.

The CDC said up to 25% of people are carriers and many will never have symptoms.  This means any tiny drop of spit/contamination from them can infect others, and could kill those who have compromised immune systems.

Charity begins at home is one thing.  It also means caring about your impact on others when away from home.  People just need to wear masks.

@CalminHeart .... and stores, public places need to enforce it, but cities can not reopen safely.
