Re: A thought for those considering giving up land lines

Call me a risk taker but I won't pay charges for a land line that I never use and will never use on the chance some one in million thing like that would happen.  Life is full of risks.

Re: A thought for those considering giving up land lines

Our 911 systems require a land line.  Having used their system twice in the last three years, both times my husband was critially ill and had to have treatment on the way to the ER in the ambulance, no amount of money saved would be worth not having the land line.

We use it a lot for ordinary day to day local calls as well, my cell phone hasn't been used one time in over a month - excerpt for a back up alarm Smiley Very Happy

We use my husband's cell with unlimited minutes, etc. for long distance calls.  It all works out well for us.

I would never even consider giving up my landline. It is a service well worth paying for. Taking foolish risks is never a good idea.

I will keep my landline for as long as I can. My land line does not need batteries. My Cell phone will not work unless I remember to recharge it....

Duringa bad bad storm years ago, the cellphone ran out of charge....the land line still worked.....

Re: A thought for those considering giving up land lines

I'm just too old a dog to change! I use my cell phone for emergencies when I'm not at home! My dd gets mad that I don't "pick up" when she calls, even tho I make it known I don't live with my cell phone attached at my hip! I waited a long time before getting a cell, and only did so when we all began having serious health issues and I worked full time. I wanted to get the call right away without the chance the switchboard would simply put a not in my mailbox. I carry it with me when I'm not home, but when I'm home I use my land line only!

Never underestimate the power of kindness.

Re: A thought for those considering giving up land lines

I live up in the hills with woods all around. Our cell phone service is far from ideal so

I keep my land line. One of my daughters gave up her land line. I hesitate to call her at times because I don't want to interrupt her if she's working late or she's out to dinner. I wind up texting her more than I used to. I would rather hear her voice.

If you have a landline.... get a phone that will just plug into the landline.  Cordless phones will not work if you lose power.  They are cheap, but worth it.

Re: A thought for those considering giving up land lines

For $10 a month we are keeping our land line.

We only have BASIC local service, we have lots of cell phones for long distance calls etc.

Thank you to all that added insight about having a corded phone for use during power outages, very important detail.  My husband threw away our corded 'emerengy phone' because he did not know why I was "saving it".    [[ughh]]

DH became a heart patient at only 34.  We had two little "stair step" boys.

I will never give that phone up!
