I lived on a farm when I was a little girl.A quiet , serene life it is not. Up before dawn breaks to milk the cow & goat. Cow, goat and pony out to the pasture then muck out stalls and lay new hay. Meanwhile dad has to slop pigs and clean up the pig pen before he leaves for work.If it is cold out he has to shovel in coal for the furnace so Mum can keep the house warm all day.Meanwhile my Mom would bake bread every day for us - we woke every morning to the scent of baking bread and perking coffee.DELIGHTFUL.And all this done before breakfast.

Re: A little humour in country living...

These stories are great!  I live on 35 acres of wooded bliss.   Yes, it certainly has its charm but the nearest store is a 20 min drive so also has its drawbacks.........We too have an unbelievable number of turkeys.   I'm pretty sure the state is helping them repopulate here too.  You have to watch out though, there was a house in our town that had a turkey literally crash through their kitchen window!!    They can actually be quite agressive!!  Yes and hang out on the back deck, they do.  What a stinking mess, poop everywhere!!!

Also coyotes, black bear and racoons!!  Oh my!!!    (LOL)
