A little humour in country living...

[ Edited ]

I often read hear about neighbors ,  often people lamenting about country life ,the peaceful  life...

well let me  tell you there is nothing quiet in these woods! Please  excuse my  colorful descriptions....

This morning on my little Riley sends walk we discovered a copperhead  den ,Yup sunning themselves , Oh Riley, hell no we aren't going over there..I see several family's of turkeys ,  seems the govt repopulates our county, no kidding ,by releasing  them  few hundred feet down the road.Seems this year in addition to the 9 little  fat ones  passing here mama boys are hanging on the last year's litter is tagging along, hmm I think I know why my gardens have been picked clean.... Time to head home see who's causing my garden problem, oh good glad you brought others there..Heading in the house I notice my blackberries are ready a month early got to get them picked before the Bluejays notice. so out i head  bowl in hand hat 4 ft of pigtails tucked under a hat,,  okay Ellie may..I proceeded  to get stuck in prickers , pull my hat off  hair in bushes..But got 3 pints ,yay!Came in the house to pick assorted burrs from my person, where is my wide tooth comb,? guest bathroom 3 floors up..Hmm.wonder who's hammering? They have an odd rather, no wait I know that..Down 3 flights outside wood picker tearing up my eves ... And  how are your neighbors  now...... Ha! still love it ,couldn't imagine life any where else, but not for the faint of heart ,  I wonder how I would live life else where..Gonna go clean the cement pond..... Critters... hugs , Maryanne

Re: A little humour in country living...

I lived on a farm when I was a little girl.A quiet , serene life it is not. Up before dawn breaks to milk the cow & goat. Cow, goat and pony out to the pasture then muck out stalls and lay new hay. Meanwhile dad has to slop pigs and clean up the pig pen before he leaves for work.If it is cold out he has to shovel in coal for the furnace so Mum can keep the house warm all day.Meanwhile my Mom would bake bread every day for us - we woke every morning to the scent of baking bread and perking coffee.DELIGHTFUL.And all this done before breakfast.

@Still keeper of the koi - but isn't it just the best - all the wildlife around!  I literally had 13 wild turkeys in my yard for a couple of months a few years ago - they would eat then roost on top of the rail of my deck cleaning themselves.  If they saw me walking, they would follow me and the dogs to my house.  It was pretty hilarious.  I just love all of the wildlife here - except for the woodpeckers pecking on my house.  I'm always thinking someone is knocking on my door!  Sounds like your home is just lovely - except the copperheads!  You and Riley be safe!  Heart

Re: A little humour in country living...

We live in the woods and every Spring some big black bear comes down from the state gamelands looking for food and water. This year he came by again one evening and tried to dig the bugs out of the logs on our house. We couldn't chase him away fast enough and thank goodness he has not come back. Also, a flock of wild turkey's landed in our lower field, I counted 18 of them. I guess when you live in the wild, you get the wild.LOL

It sounds like you are having way too much fun.Woman Very Happy Here the bears come when the blackberries ripen. Those copperheads would have to go. They will move right in with you when the weather cools down if you don't watch it.
