Not only does "someone else" need it...but we do too.  An act of random kindness elevates the happiness of the giver as well as the receiver.  These acts are even more critical in today's world.  I've read this quote many times and it has never been more relevant that now...thanks @SeaMaiden

Yes, and I'll add:  a kind indifference, is also kindness.  Times when someone doesn't want special attention (or any at all), just that palpable but intangible knowing that someone is there.

@phoenixbrd     Just the act of letting someone help you if they ask if they can makes that other person feel better.  I know that there have been times I offered to open a door or do something for someone and they turned me down... thinking they did not want to bother me... when in fact if made me feel let down that I could not be of help to them.

Sometimes LETTING people help you gives such good vibs to that person giving the help.
