A Generous Restaurant in Our Area

[ Edited ]

A Montgomery County, PA restaurant has posted this generous offer on FB:

Spring House Tavern

Our family owned business understands the importance of helping our community when it’s needed the most. If you normally would be receiving SNAP or WIC benefits, but due to the government shut down you are unable to utilize those benefits we would like to do our small part to help.
Please bring in your SNAP or WIC card starting on Tuesday, November 4th from 4-8pm and receive a home cooked meal at no cost to you. Bring your kiddos or your spouse and enjoy a night out, because you deserve it!
How will it work? Simply make a reservation or stop in for a table, show your EBT SNAP or WIC card to your server when you are seated (showing us your card will help us know that your meals are on the house), choose a soup or salad and an entree from our special menu - and the rest is on us. Edited to add: your server's tip will be covered through generous donations!
We truly hope that if this could help you and your family that you will stop in to see us ❤️

This restaurant is being helped by patrons and other generous locals. I think it's a wonderful gesture, but it isn't sustainable. Let's pray this will soon end.
ETA: I see that Uber drivers and others have come forward to offer rides for those who don't have transportation. Love still abounds!Heart

This family will be rewarded in the future for their humanity today.  I love to read posts like yours.

Editted to add that 2 Italian restaurants in my area are offering meals to those losing their SNAP benefits.

that is a wonderful thing they are doing. Things are kinda tight and miserable for so many. Humans don't deserve to be treated this way. But thank God for people who step up. Thank you for the story

Re: A Generous Restaurant in Our Area

What a wonderful thing to do.

Many restaurants give back to the community.  There are many homeless people in the city nearest to me.  Quite a few pizza/sandwich shops have a bulletin board or cork wall that allows people to pin cash, gift cards or paid IOU's on it.

If you need a meal and have no money, you are welcome to help yourself.

Many paying patrons help out by pinning $ on the wall.

Luckily, kids get free breakfast and lunch at schools if their family has a EBT card.  They also get to take backpacks of food home every Friday and return the backpacks for a refill next week.

They can also visit food pantries or call local church organizations.

It's the home bound seniors who don't drive or have anyone to help that I worry about.  They will be forgotten.

If you know anyone like this, reach out.  Stores won't deliver food without payment and the elderly are unable to help themselves and are often confused.

The food banks are in serious trouble. They did not get expected deliveries from the government, plus the denial of SNAP card funding.

Isn't EBT another name for SNAP?

Same in my area.  A local restaurant is offering a pay what you can on Tues, Wed & Thurs during lunch and dinner until shutdown is over.  Roast chicken, herbed carrots, mashed potatoes or smoked tofu, mashed potatoes and herb carrots.  Also a few choices from the kid's menu.

"EVERYONE deserves a warm meal. At Ollie’s we are now offering a pay what you can meal. What does that mean? Literally that. We have 4 choices right now but hope to expand them. Order from that menu and our server will hand you their tablet and you can put any price for those items that you feel you can afford. If that is $10, $5, $1, or $0. There is no pressure, no judgement, no worries for you or your family."
