Since you barely know each other, it's so weird that she felt that you should have said "congratulations".

 

You had already told her it was an accomplishment (which was nice of you) -- you didn't have to say anything.

@Daisy Sunflower I thought so too. I would never in a million yrs beg for a compliment. This woman is probably in her 70's!! I was almost speechless!
