Need Advice about NYC Sightseeing Day Pass

DH and I have already made reservations flight/hotel for NYC first week of October. We are still trying to plan our days. In one of the books we found the city pass for many attractions in 1, 3, 5, 7 days. Anyone purchase this? Thanks.

The travel agent advised us to also visit Viator dot com and this in there with great reviews. Also the TCM movie tour is one we want to go on but not covered by the pass. Just wanted to see if anyone who visits the forums had experience with the pass.

October should be an excellent time to visit NYC weather wise. Regarding the pass I think it depends on what you want to do. If the pass covers the sights you want to see and I think it also may allow you to bypass some lines, then it may be a good deal. I have used viator and that worked out well. No real need to decide until you get there. I like having the flexibility on a day to day basis and wouldn't want to feel obligated to use the pass. You need to allow time just to walk the streets--Madison Avenue, Broadway, Central Park, etc. I would highly recommend however the Circle Line 3 hour cruise around Manhattan. As a native New Yorker I have done that ride several times and am always amazed. Great trip!

We do have that cruise written down. There are 3 or 4 different passes which have the things we want to do. Just pick one. We have time to pick just excited and everything is so overwhelming. thanks for your input.

It’s very touristy and you could be stuck in traffic

NYer walk or take the subway

decide your must see sites first then you can plan transportation

check the site for magazine "Time Out NY"....you may get some ideas there. The Circle Line is alot of fun !! Get down to Down Town NY...the pier should be done by then and you can do your own walking tour of the financial district....avoid the Staten Island Ferry.....its on my Life List--we did it and OMGL...shaking my head.....people fighting for space and for outlets to charge their phones. I am not denigrating Staten Islanders or NY-ers ( I am one) but people in general.

I hope you are taking in a Broadway Show too !!!! I recommend "Beautiful"

@withaK We checked Beautiful for the week we're there and I could only find tickets for $439 for both of us. Is that typical? We don't want to pay that kind of money.

OKPrincess....I have not used that city pass you referred to but might be convenient for things you want to do. You can probably arrange that when you arrive in the city if you are not sure right now. It is fun to think and plan ahead. We walked a lot or used cabs (be careful there...last trip we were scammed twice...be sure to count money out to a driver...don't just hand over $$$ .drivers (some) slip money down to hide it and say you did not pay enough). I notified authorities of problem so maybe drivers are not doing it as much. We did take the city bus tour which was interesting. Next time I want to take the cruises that have been mentioned. As far as the play goes.....we were there mid-week last September and got two tickets, in advance, to see Beautiful for $365....included taxes, fees, etc....evening performance...main level....great seats....worth it!!!! Keep checking....good seats are not cheap....but you might get lucky. And, they have discount ticket places in NYC also. I have been to three different plays there on different trips and the tickets are pricey but worth it for a good play. I don't like being in balcony so I opt for mezzanine or main floor.

Now I want to go back again this year!!! Hope you have great weather and lots of fun. I know it isn't until October but let us know about your trip after you return.

I understand planning out your trip - what I like to do when I go on vacation is plan out the day -

which neighborhoods - how to get there - how much is the admission - hours

food placds i can try - places i can eat on the cheap

NYC has many places to eat for $$ which is not worth it for lunch or breakfast

go to your favorite chain - Panera, Maison Kayser, Chipotle

menu dot com has menus w/prices listed by cuisine or neighborhood with reviews

you can get around NYC best by subway - load up your metro card - and good shoes

get a map - and know your route - map it ut ahead of time

taxis will just eat up your wallet

@Yahooey I'm a planner so when we walk out of the hotel we know which direction we walking. We are picking out the attractions we must see then putting them on a daily scheduler and then see how we want to get there. I'll admit the subway scares me but I want to use it. I guess the subway goes all around Manhattan? Is this more recommended than the hop on hop off bus?

@OKPrincess We always do the hop on hop off bus in any new city we visit. Good way to see lots of sites, get the lay of the land just sitting and relaxing. Then we go from there.

it is always nice to see NYC above ground on a nice day. Idk much about the hop on and off but I see a lot them. I see buses labeled with the loop route - updown downtown etc. See which company works best for you. I'm sure there is more than one. Have you used trip advisor to see what others have used?

Subways will just get you there directly and quickly.
