pre-cruise Covid test requirement question?

We are leaving on a long planned European cruise in early Sept. The cruise rules say we must have a Supervised Covid test (negative of course) within 72 hours of boarding. We will be in Paris at that time.

Has anyone had to to take a test in France? How did it work out?

We are vaccinated and boosted but had a breakthrough case (husband and I) in March. Getting our 2nd booster this week.

I know Carnival dropped the pre-cruise test for short cruises (under 5 days) but ours is 9 days.

If anyone can advise me I would be very grateful.

I would contact the cruise line or your travel agent. I am surprised this is still required for a European cruise. We just returned from an American Cruise Line riverboat trip from Memphis to Nashville and didn't have any Covid protocols at all, didn't even have to show proof of vaccination. My son did a Royal Caribbean cruise last November and did the "supervised" test which is done via Zoom. He did it with his aunt who is a travel agent. Best of luck and enjoy

We took a Viking Cruise on the Danube in June. We were told we needed a PCR test within 72 hours of leaving the States which we did. We were never asked to show the results of the test as well as our immunizations. As far as we were concerned it was a waste of time and money as our Covid test were $299 for each. That was our situation but I would check at the last possible minute before traveling to be sure what the requirements will be in your situation.

We had similar situation recently when departing on a cruise from Venice. We were in Venice for several days prior to departure so had to do a Covid test there. I booked the test online before we arrived, with a recommended testing site that our Venice hotel gave me (I emailed them) easy, no problem

How was the Danube? Looking forward to another river cruise. We loved Uniworld down the Rhine and the Mossel. Pre Covid.

@wonderfulworld We did the Danube cruise awhile ago. It wasn't Viking, but the cruise was fantastic. I prefer the European river cruises to the huge ships to the islands.

I totally agree with you. Another wonderful way to see Europe is to combine a river cruise with trains through the Swiss Alps. Uniworld does it!!! Pricey but the trip of a life time!

Contact the Concierge at your hotel. They are accustomed to setting up testing. When we left Venice to fly back home, tests were still necessary. The concierge arranged for a doctor to come to our room & perform the test & results were delivered to the hotel that afternoon.

We traveled with Tauck & they arranged for testing within the tour but we stayed three days beyond & we were told they’d set up testing as well.

Many thanks. You all on these boards are the best. I wish they would drop all this preboard testing. So many people are flying in from all over and can pick up Covid in the 72 hours after the test anyway. Proof of vaccination makes more sense.

How dud you like the Danube cruise with Viking? Did you like port tours?

Was the cruise filled with passengers?

We took Caribbean cruise in February and instead of 900 passengers there were 310. We hardly encountered anyone in our halls.

Our cruise is over...we ended up doing facetime covid tests from our hotel rooms in Paris and we all passed. We had a wonderful cruise and no one got sick. I know that all of the covid prestest requirements are over but I wanted to update all of you who were kind enough to respond.

Those who showed up at the dock to board and had not pre-tested ( not in our group but other passengers) were sent into town (Dover, England) to get a test. Interestingly, it was a vaccination required cruise and only about half full. I guess the cruise line (Carnival) had to abide by distance between tables requirements. Made it quite nice.

A friend of mine was on a two-week trip to Paris last month. Everyone on the trip got Covid. The unlucky luck of the draw.

It is my hunch that many on group trips are contracting covid and either don't know it or don't report it. The symptoms are so mild for most people now, I can see how the infection can be ignored or denied.

I've written about our adventure with covid. I tracked down a few fellow travelers after our issues. One lady told me that she and her sister self tested and had started Plaxovid. The tour director told us that on every trip he has done (since resuming travel) someone has tested positive including him.
