Choose Paper Shipping Bags

Paper or Plastic? Choose Paper.

QVC - Please change and move away from using plastic shipping bags used for many QVC clothing items and use eco- nature-friendly paper bags or evelopes.

Amazon and some eBay sellers have stepped up this change in their shipping methods with no change in possible shipping damage.

Doing so would be a much needed proactive step towards our environment. Also, it is much easier for your customers to tear down for the recycle bin.

We need this because our planet needs this.

Funny, they did away with paper for plastic & now it's paper again....I don't care what's used just get my order to me promptly. I always get plastic at the grocery store, use them for trash & cleaning the cat litter.

Clothing will get wet and rip easily in paper.

Before NYS passed the anti-plastic bag law in most retail stores I would save and use them for garbage and trash.

Now I buy plastic bags. So my overall plastic consumption hasn't dropped. It may even have risen.

The vendors I've received clothing from are in a labeled plastic bag, then the shipper puts it in another plastic bag.

In my experience the paper bags with clothing in them are not getting wet from our sprinkler system or rain.

Amen, what was once recycled/repurposed is now needed to be purchased, and of course at an additional cost.

Well, it's nice your paper bags aren't getting wet, but packages that get left on the front steps often get rained or snowed on, depending on your region, climate and housing.

"Paper bags" is a nice idea ... but plastic is pretty much weatherproof. If a package arrives in bad condition due to weather, they're going to call the retailer and demand another item shipped. I can see why retailers would prefer using plastic, to assure an item arrives in good condition.

Oh! Here's food for thought ...

Did you know that globally we cut down about 27,000 trees per day, just for the manufacturing toilet paper? How many years did each tree have to grow to be cut down to end up on rolls of soft paper in our bathrooms?

So, now to deal with the increased demand for paper bags, collectively we're going to have to kill even more trees every day?

IMO, that's not a "solution".

What's the answer? I don't know. What I DO know is that I'm against anything that requires killing living things. Trees increase the oxygen levels in the atmosphere, and we need all the oxygen we can get.

@Bella8888, I had a cookbook in a paper bag delivered by Amazon. The rain destroyed it. I've had coffee pods delivered in paper bags. The snow destroyed the boxes they were in.

There is no one solution for all deliveries.

Sorry that happened for you.

My deliveries land near the front door without a problem, which is somewhat sheltered but not entirely.

I think it is worth it to move towards more eco-friendly shipping containers where and when it is possible.

Plastic has its place for sure in our world, but I think some of it could be cut back.

I just received these canned and glass bottled goods in these sturdy paper bags, some from Amazon and without tears or content damage. I was surprised and which prompted me to post the suggestion to QVC.

FYI - these 'paper bags' are more like corregated flexible bags, not the thinner grocery sack bags. I am sure some have received them for their orders.

I'm not against plastic, per se; I just think we could cut back.

I hear your points.

Most of these paper bags are made from recycled boxes, no cutting down of trees to make paper products. As an aside, trees are currently being planned out to be more sustainable. There are movements towards that end in the PNW. Whereas, it takes plastic bags about 10-20 years to break down in landfills, that is IF they make it there.

IMO, that's not a "solution".

I defintiely agree we need oxygen to breathe!

Recyclying boxes into this type of bag is a good/best solution we can come up with for now. Just have to start somewhere. 🌺

Agree. No polyester, plastic drinking bottles or zip-lock type baggies here.

Other plastic bottles are used for everything from ketchup to make-up; can't get away from it.

Some things we can and should get out of our environment.

When I learned stores would only offer paper bags, I bought a dozen plastic bags to reuse. Nothing wrong with plastic if you keep using it, and it's a LOT stronger and lasts longer than paper.

Many retailers are using paper. The paper packagesI receive are heavier than regular paper. None have ever arrived torn. I've never had any rain or snow soak through.

I just hate plastic getting dumped in trash, on roads, in waterways, etc. It's been proven over and over that it's dangerous for animals, fish, people, and underwater plantlife.

There are recycle bins at most grocery stores. Most metro garbage collections have a number of location where plastic bags, batteries, etc etc can be dropped off.

Maybe if they went back to using corrugated boxes that would solve the problem. They are sturdy and if wet, it would take a lot for them to ruin the contents

Trees are replanted when they are cut down to keep the forests growing and healthy. There is also a lot of recycled fiber in most boxes so they are reused often. Companies that make the paper for these boxes, or make the boxes themselves are committed to forestry.

NOT ME. I carry my own cloth, reusable bags 90% of the time. But given a choice I take plastic, they get reused as trashcan liners, kitty litter collection or to carry things to a donation center, or you name it. They get re-used much more than a paper bag. SAVE THE TREES.
