I don’t want the QVC app!

QVC.....why does every email I receive from you now automatically directs me to download your app when I click on the email? I can't get past the screen that directs me to download the app. What a shame! I want to look at the product or see the promo you're sending my way and I can't. I don't want the app. I like shopping directly from your website. Please bring back your emails where I can click on the item and I am taken directly to your website.

I still don't know why every business wants you to use their app!

I've looked it up and still don't get what the advanatage is to them. To stay more connected and know what their customer wants I read? It still seems so much push to get on the app. For what, I'm not sure.

Anyone know?

For certain things like an airline app when flying, yes they are helpful. But a retail store if you prefer using a laptop or tablet it is so much easier to navigate the regular website.

Certain browsers seem to push them more than others. Plus having a lot of apps can slow down your phone.

You can still use their website on your smart phone so I still don't see the advantage to them to have an app.

And I also don't like a ton of apps on my phone anyway.

Because they can collect data about an individual's purchases, browsing habits, time on the app, etc. This is valuable information for a company and they encourage loyalty by offering promos, products and content only available on the app.

I have several and they work out quite well for me--points that give me free products, access to products not available elsewhere and early access to sales. There's nothing important they're collecting on me they wouldn't have by me being on their actual website. It's nothing nefarious or risky as long as one is familiar with the company.

Aren't they able to see the same information from using a website as someone using their app?

For example, I don't have the QVC app but on my computer, on their website they show what I've recently looked at and what I might like based on that.

I guess I still don't see the difference in what they gain from people using their app as opposed to the website.

It must be something they really gain from with all the encouragement they give to sign up for it-all businesses seem to do this now.

I don't fully understand the purpose of an app either but in my mind an app is like having an open door to a site to get you there faster as well as access other things it might have to offer. With an app you don't need to sign in or out (like opening a door then closing a door). Without an app you need to sign in every time (like opening a door), conduct your business, then sign out (like closing a door) when you're done. It seems to me that apps leave you open all the time (like leaving a door open all the time) and making you more susceptible to being hacked. This may be totally wrong but this is my perception and why I don't use them if I can avoid them. Again, just my opinon. 🌹

Reading more, it seems an app gives a compnay a closer more intense connection to the customer and being able to have direct marketing, advertise freely, gain more detailed information about a customer. And since the app is always there, someone may be more likely to go to it, rather than search for a website and sign in.

Many people don't even use computers any more and even on a tablet an app is easy to use. They can also send you notifications that way. If I only used a tablet I'd probably put the app on. If you have the app downloaded it's just one more way they can can get your to easily place an order on impulse. Especially if you have notifications on.

That's it exactly. I receive a lot of benefits by having certain apps, but it's up to the individual. No one should feel they have to have it, but it's nothing dangerous.

I am w/the poster on the bay on this one. To me a website is easier to use. I have a landline, cell stays in the car for my food "take-out" orders & I also use a VPN when browsing the WWW so no tracking.

Almost everything is App now accept maybe your neighborhood bodega. The QVC app pops up regularly now but I am not bitting. I use my desktop and or WWW on my tablet. I tried to hire a handyman for a project at the house and the response was to download the app....next! I prefer the website too.

I've had a cellphone since the 80's when I brought my first car for the convenience and security just like now.

I don't like apps either. I only download the ones I have absolutely no choice of having.

I don't do anything financial on my phone.

I don't like "them" knowing my location. Only Dateline would need to know where I was at any time. LOL.

I have a Belk app, but that's simply for me to pull up a coupon when I'm in the store. Seems like every time I need to use it, it needs to be updated though. That happened to me in Publix too, and you do have to sign into that app to use it, so I was out of luck since I couldn't remember my password. So, that story about not having to open/close doors is not always true with an app.

There are settings you check or not when you download an app. You can share location, only share location when using the app, or not at all. These are helpful to use.

You do realize your cell phone is constantly pinging off the towers you pass in order to work. No one needs an app to figure out where anyone has been. It's happening 24/7.

I know from past threads that many posters here are reticent to make the best use of smart phone features, but as long as you use the same common sense you use on any website, there is nothing to worry about.

And yes, I do all of my banking, bill paying, shopping and gifting on my phone or iPad and have had no concerns. Most hacking incidents happen to the computer servers of large companies. I can assure you no one is trying to hack into my Dunkin app.

That depends on the app and your settings. Most apps have a "stay logged in" setting. But some do log users off after a period of non use. The worst one is actually Target as far as I'm concerned. I have gift cards, offers and other perks in my app but their stores' have such weak WiFi I can't always log in. Their buildings aren't conducive to cell service either.
