Dish towels

I was wondering if anyone has had this happen. I bought some new dish towels and they don't seem to dry the dishes very well. They have been washed quite a few times and still don't dry very well. That is the second time this has happened. Any suggestions?

@cusegirl. What is the fabric content? They should be 100% cotton, no poly, and don't use fabric softener.

I completely agree! 100 percent cotton, or even linen. I also like the textured towels. NO MICROFIBER! I have microfiber for decoration, but not for serious work.

When laundering, rinse w/ white vinegar. No fab softener.

@cusegirl My favorites are flour sack towels from Walmart, the big ones, and Utopia Kichen Towels Bar Mops all cotton towels from Amazon. They go on sale frequently.

The flour sack are big, relatively thin and highly absorbant and I love them. The bar mops are smaller, I get dark colors that don't show stains and I change them all out daily if not more often.

Bar mops work well usually! I keep some pretty towels from Williams Sonoma when they are on sale--great deal-- to put out for company. But they are thicker than I like for every day. I spray a lot of water around rinsing and washing veggies.

I only buy 100% cotton dish towels.

The last batch I bought have a raised texture on them and they are on the thicker side.

They do not absorb water well at all. I am going to stick to my thinner flat towels...no terry loops or puckered weaves.

They are 100% cotton, and I never use fabric softener. I am going to try washing them and rinsing in the white vinegar. Unfortunately I bought 6 towels that are like that. Thank you all for the advice

I like to use terry cloth, like the kind on wash cloths. I've found that linen and other types are for decoration and don't really help with drying.

Had been looking for new dish towels for awhile now - on a recent trip to Walmart, I came across a 6-pack set of their Mainstays brand; 100% cotton - just washed/dried them and so far they are FANTASTIC - doing a great job drying dishes, countertops, etc!

I like the Mainstays 100% cotton @tl98466 . Some of them are 90% cotton. I prefer the 100%. They're reasonaby priced too.

@cusegirl I think it may have to do with the fabric sontent of the towel. If there's nylon or polyester in the mix, it'll shed water more than absorb it.

I like flour sack towels, too, but I also use bathroom hand towels as dish towels.

the bar mop towels at sams club!

very affordable and easy to wash and bleach.

i save my nicer towels then for "display."

I use diapers for drying my glassware. They're all cotton and make the glass sparkle. They're not much for decor but I keep one in my pantry for drying the dishes I handwash. They're not easy to find but our TJ Maxx usually carries them.

I use only 100% cotton dishtowels. A lot of the fabric blends don't dry very well.

I've found most towels are not as absorbent as long ago.

Have noticed if any type of fabric has been made from recycled goods, the product is not good and will not last long. I no longer recycle because of this.

I won't buy products any longer that are made from recycled. I look at the tag on product right away and if recycled, will not buy.

Towels are not absorbent and clothing pills easily if made from recycled goods.

The coating on many towels cause this problem and I had trouble finding some also.

I like a terry towel, not a thin bar towel.

I have the White Classic Premium Dish Towels (on Amazon) and find they are very absorbent and wash well.

8 pack sells for around $24
