Refresher Course on How To Present Items

A good host will remove the article of clothing off the rack so we can get a complete picture of what the item looks like as opposed to just sliding the items back and forth on the rack. And show the back of the item as well.

A good host will explain all the colors within a print not just say the name of the color to order. Customers want to know what other colors are within the print so they know what tops/pants accessories will match.

A good host will advise the lengths of both tops and bottoms.

A good host will show the entire shoe including the back of the shoe as well as the bottom and tell us the size of the heel.

@Love2QIM A "good" host is the key word. I'm guessing not an important requirement of QVC when hiring these people.

I'm doubting that in many cases.

I would much rather know ALL the colors in prints, rather than on and on about what to wear with, where to wear, etc., i.e wear with shorts, with pencil skirts, wear to the grocery store, wear to church, etc. I think we can all figure that out ourselves!

At one time Mary Beth and Jayne Brown trained new hosts. I am not certain how that is currently being done. I will say peer influence can be more powerful than training particularity over a stretch of time. This is not always a good thing.

I think a yearly back to basics training for all hosts would be helpful in breaking bad habits or in some cases no habits. Trying to listen to producers in your ear while talking and concentrating is not an easy skill to develop. Something gets overlooked. Unfortunately, it is sometimes measurements, fabric content, and other product descriptions. Reinforcing positive behaviors involves reteach and redirection in any educational setting.

A good host will provide sizing information - what size they, the vendor and models are wearing.

and a good host would not use the word etc. etc. constantly in every presentation as if they don't need to explain the product...in otherwords...look it up yourself.

@just wonder One day my little granddaughter was visiting and QVC was on. When one of the hosts was listing all the places you could wear an outfit...she said. ...

"How about the recycling center".... It just struck me as funny at the time.

A good hosts does what his or her supervisor instructs them to do, not what the people on this board thinks they should do. It should be obvious that QVC has different criteria than the relatively few people on this board.

@Love2QIM , I agree with everything you wrote. Today I read a post on the We #loveQVC. The person is blind, and has to rely on the hosts description of items. She said counted on them and bought gifts, did her shopping because certain hosts like Carolyn was someone she could count on her opinions and ideas.

Should-a, would-a, could-a. I agree but that's not how employment works. The reality is that hosts have to do what they're told or get demoted/fired. This is true for everyone who is employed.

If the presentation directions are coming from the top...maybe a refresher course for the directors should be offered. Buying off a TV presentaton is not the same as buying in an acutal store.
Apparently they do not know - or care - what the viewers/customers need to hear so that they will spend their money!

I was in my doctor's office the other day....a young woman opposite me in the waiting room had on jeans that were ripped, from left to right as with a knife, from the crotch to the knees, with long strings of threads hanging off them...

She looked like she dressed in a five minute stop in the bathroom of a bus station.

Top it off, she looked like she was squeezed into these unattractive pants.,,,three sizes too small for her ample body.

She was there with her mother ( Ob/gyn) office, and she was similarly slop-dop dressed.

So maybe they DO listen to the buyer of the items.

From the looks of half tucks, torn ripped jeans, jeans with ridiculous patches on them...that's what sells today.

The scarecrow in my neighbor's cornfield dresses better.

In my opinion, it's all about being noticed.....good or bad. Look at those covered in tatoos, piercings, that's what they want from their peers. We don't matter. They think it's cool. We're the odd ones in their eyes.

That is the thing, is anyone actually supervising them, or critiquing them when they are on air, because as a long time viewer, I have seen the level of professionalism of the hosts, vastly deteriorate over the years.

Please share what the fabric is and also, do not just say item comes in petite, regular and tall, but do not tell the inseam! It's hard to believe these salespersons do not give imperative information in order to purchase. And all the while, they have time to ask silly questions and talk nonsense.

I think their "refresher" course should be to sit in a room watching live presentations such as Tuesday nights, Saturday mornings at 10am, Lori Goldstein at 5 on Mondays, Isaac Mizarhi with Jen Coffey on Friday, Pat and Susan Graver on Thursdays, etc. You get the drift. They'd learn a lot why the Q has so many dissatisfied customers. It's why I stopped watching.
