Why Can't the Hosts Taste Food???

What does tasting the food possibly have to do with COVID? It RUINS every food presentation that is on the air!! I think it is totally STUPID and going a bit too far!! If anyone can offer a logical explanation, please do!

I don't know the answer to your question but when they were tasting the food posters here complained how they didn't like it.

I agree, it seems pretty silly to me. Going overboard and it does ruin the presentations. The other night I was watching the host selling David's cookies and she wanted to take a bite of one so bad it was obvious. I wanted to say, go ahead and eat it! I also wanted a bite.

@proudlyfromNJ Some posters are always complaining about something. Can't please everyone. Just as many as complain; there are many who don't mind hosts tasting the food.

Because food presented on air is handled by many people, food stylists, camera crew, host, etc. and sits under hot studio lights for who knows how long?

During our current situation, would you want to eat it?

Now that I'm here, they should also have plastic spoons for dipping into various tubs of face cream. Instead of their fingers.

They often dip their fingers into the tub, then rub the cream onto their hands, then re-dip their fingers into the cream.

Something about doing that bothers me. I guess I'm just worrying about the next person doing the same.

Small, plastic disposable spoons might be a better idea. That way the cream stays 'fresh' and non-contaminated.

i don't know why they can't taste the food anymore, but i don't understand why it would ruin the presentation. whether they really like the taste or not, they're going to make it look and sound like they do. it's up to you and not them, to decide if you want to try it.

I don't get your point at all.

I personally would choose not to.

BTW, if they DID taste it, on air, what would you expect them to say...that it was awful?

Well, I'm one of those who prefer they not eat. I hate all the oohing and aahing - they act like it's the most delicious thing on the planet. We all know everyone likes different things and not everyone loves everything. So, imho, it's a waste of time and disgusting to watch sometimes.

Drinking a freshly opened bottle of wine or making/drinking a cup of tea, coffee, whatever is much different that eating a pre-made casserole etc. (like for cookbook sales) which is more likely to get contaminated.

Guess we all just look at thiings differently: maybe the Q's liability insurance requires no munching during these covid time.

I personally look forward to their ability to taste the food on air again.

It's nice to see people with healthy appetites.

Sampling the food allows them to convey flavors, aroma, textures and consistency. A skill at which Sharon Faetsch exceled with unmatched expertise.

I wouldn't eat it. I hate to think how many hands have touched it and how long it's been sitting under hot lights.

Many of the cookie and candy offerings are individually wrapped and they are yet forbidden.

Hosts open up sealed containers of Germack and Squirrel Brand, yet are still forbidden.

I agree, if the food comes out of a package or jar that has been unopened, like a bag of popcorn or jar of nuts, or if the host has prepared the item themselves, it's kind of silly not to allow them to eat it. No, I wouldn't want to eat something that's been sitting around or that I know several people have touched, but a lasagna or something else that's right out of the oven? Why not?

Given the current circumstances, maybe they (hosts/vendors) were given the option and personally CHOSE not to??

Personally, I would've opted out, given the choice.

Not to mention that posters here have complained for many, many years about hosts/vendors talking while eating, wolfing food down like they're starving, chewing with their mouth open, smacking while eating and on and on and on.

@KingstonsMom You hit the nail on the head. The complaints were here EVERY time there was a food show. Especially with certain hosts. Seems like everyone should be pleased now. No matter what the hosts do there are going to be complaints.
