Price Increases! 😧

I posted this reply in a thread in "Q Talk." I am copying it here in Suggestion Box for the powers-that-be to read:

When you shop in a B&M or department store, sometimes you pay the price that's on the tag (the "manufacturer's suggested retail price" or MSRP."

Sometimes there's a sale, so you get a percentage off-- or dollar amount off -- of that price for a limited time.

Then, at the end of a season, the items are marked down: "permanently reduced" or "clearance."

You never see the B&M or department stores remove the original price tags and replace them with new tags that have HIGHER MSRPs! Or take clearance items and increase their prices!

Yet that is essentially what QVC is doing. Until now, this was unheard-of in the retail world.

This goes on everywhere.

I remember years ago my daughter loved Boyd's Bears.

I was at Elder Beerman & they had a large display of the bears.

I didn't buy any, but a few days later I saw that they were on sale & I went back.

They had marked the prices up & put them on sale.

That was the first time I had actually seen it happen, but not the last.

Kohls is also awful about switching up prices.

I don't think other retailers are all that much different. Some maybe don't but lots of them do. Just try buying something that was on sale from 9AM until noon cheaper after the sale - Macys is great for that kind of sale and no, the products aren't the same price or less later on - at least not for a very long time when price comparisons become ridiculous in my mind.

Also, while I personally haven't faced this, I have read in the financial pages that shoppers at Amazon should watch prices very carefully, even on subscription products because they can change upwards. A few pennies for a company Amazon's size is worth plenty!

Chicos is the worst at this! They will have a top that is $39, and then when they have a 40% off sale, the top will mysteriously be $69! It is just laughable. When you buy something there, it is like gambling. Do I buy it today, tomorrow, next week? When will the item be the best price? It should not be that hard to shop.

Other retailers DO play games with pricing, for sure!

But I've never seen them mark up the original 'manufacturer's suggested retail price' (MSRP) that's pre-printed on the price tag... or mark up a clearance item!
