Most of the measurements give the total chest circumference, which is the most important measurement in a top for most consumers. Sometimes, as in the case of a drape front garment, it's impossible to accurately give that measurement.

I always check the sizing charts before I purchased an item. Even when I’m purchasing from a designer I know their sizing. If you try to decipher what the actual sweep is in a Susan Graver cardigan and what the bust size is, it’s almost impossible. They give you something 1 inch below the bust for the back but not for the front. They give you the sweep for the back but not for the front. We’re trying to order the right size but QVC is making it difficult.

Glitzy, I feel the same way. Sometimes I see measurements that are nowhere near the size of an adult's chest. In looking for the chest measurements, I scan down and sometimes I just see numbers like 15 and 16, etc., so I just assume you have to double them. I think they get way too technical sometimes (for non-seamstresses like myself).
