A304430 Calista StyleDryer Airbrush has serious issues. The barrel of the dryer where the attachments connect gets so hot on the high setting it gave me a first degree burn with slight contact.

I wrote a review and got a call from corporate concerning the safety hazards on Friday. There are several reviews concerning this problem including the dryer getting so hot the person dropped it when trying to switch out an attachment and one person noted that sparks were flying from the unit. It’s a law suit waiting to happen. I don’t see my review, so I am posting my concerns here.

QVC, I am not an alarmist or someone who misused this product. The outside of the dryer was as hot as a curling iron. I would have had a second degree burn if I hadn’t had done more than have my finger brush against the dryer. If I was the only person experiencing problems I would consider my dryer to be a lemon and let it go, but there are multiple reviews concerning this issue. It should be pulled from inventory and evaluated for safety.

Thank you, @SunValley. I got this item couple days ago, yet hadn't even opened the box yet.

After reading your post, I perused the reviews. Appears it's a 50-50 result, with many reviewers reporting overheating/smoking. So I called Customer Service explaining the issue; I'm considering this a defective item and will be returning it, citing safety issues.

Hopefully, QVC corporate will be issuing a recall.

I don't own this product, but whenever I see a Calista styling product presented, I go on line to check reviews. It's astouning to me how many of these products from the hot rollers to the hot curling brushes have terrible reviews. Most of them are due to the appliances not lasting long before they die.

Obviously, something is amiss with the manufacturing of these products and it needs to be looked into with serious intent to find out why there are so many problems with Calista products. .

I bought the TSV and have used it twice. I love it. IMO it doesnt get any hotter than the heater/styler I was using before I bought this one. I love the attachments. It is by Hot Tools. Any other hair dryer gets hot too. Just know where to handle it.

Just know where to handle it.

Luckily, your dryer is not having the heat produced by my dryer. These are defective, meaning that some have problems and some don’t. It has nothing to do with not handling it properly. Of course a dryer will be warm from use but I can still touch the outside of any hair dryer I have ever used without injury. Not all but enough of these get too hot to safely touch to be a safety concern.

I was burned trying to reposition the brush in my hair by just brushing against the side of the dryer. It would have blistered someone with delicate skin. I dropped it by reflex it was so hot, and the burn mark was visible for two days. It had been running for less than a minute. I do know how to handle a hair dryer after decades of using them and have never been burned by touching the outside of one till using this one.

I’ve been switching the attachments trying to figure out which one works best & I did drop one because it was so hot. I have to be careful where I put them down for fear they’ll melt or damage the surface below. I was debating whether to keep this but now I am afraid to use it on hot or high setting.

I don't recall during a presentation that Maria indicates you can grab this anywhere because it doesn't get hot. It doesn't say that on the product page or in the product description.

It's a heated styling product. I would expect it would get hot. I believe it's metal, isn't it? Metal heats up. It's no different then a curling iron, flat iron, beach wave unit, etc. I wouldn't expect to be able to grab any of them anywhere and not get burned.

I have a style dryer from another company and yes it gets very hot. I have to handle it at the very tip of the brush that is plastic or on the plastic handle. Anywhere else I grab it will burn me, just like any other heat tool.

I would bet there is something in the instructions that states this will get hot.

That doesn’t make any sense. I am not waiting 10 minutes between attachment switch outs. Even the description states that you are supposed to use a combination of attachments to get the desired results. It says nothing about waiting to remove one to insert another. It’s NOT a curling iron, it’s a dryer and nothing on the unit should give one first degree burns. This thing is dangerous and should be pulled from inventory.
