Update on ‘host shopping’

I know this post was a couple of weeks ago, but it appears as if the host involved did ‘get the message’! Last night she tried to do this again, but ‘suddenly remembered’ the comments. She talked about buying too much recently and was trying to hold off. Today Carolyn, who buys everything in multiples, did the same. She used her husbanf by saying he commented on all of packages at the door, ehen she had said ‘she wasnt going to shop anymore’!

These responses make me think they are totally insincere and we the customers are being led up the garden path! QVC is employing tougher sales tactics for the hosts maybe, and they will do whatever it takes to make their target sales.

I am not sure if you are saying you want the hosts to shop or not. Doesn't matter to me either way. I buy what I like, the host doesn't sway me into buying.

Carolyn really does wear QVC clothes on the air most of the time (I recognize them).

But the other person does drive me crazy with ordering constantly on the air. I think I know what the OP is talking about. Two evenings in a row it was crazy and one evening she kept commenting that she'd spent way way too much money ordering things.

She said at the time she'd gotten rid of all of her towels and/or sheets and just bought all new one's. Then when it came on about clothes she kept talking to someone and saying I want this and that in size (whatever it was).

The person selling the item said, "How can he buy that for you"? The host said, "He has my credit card numbers".

I can't remember a lot and mix stuff up that that sticks in my brain...go figure..

Unquestionably. That is their job. Their primary goal is to get you to spend money. Their secondary goal is to get you to keep watching until you spend more money. I'm always stunned when people seem surprised that the hosts are trying as hard as they can to get your money.

I don't care what the hosts buy or say they buy, because I don't believe them. That being said one of the hosts actually interrupted an OAP in the middle of their explanation to order another product. This particular host is often rude to guests, and sometimes just walks away from them, totally disinterested. Before this is dismissed as being unkind, who is really the unkind one. Just saying.

It is a sales ploy in many cases. They want to be "just like us," and therefore they want us to know that the product is worth buying.

I have been a customer for a long time. I used to hear or read that the hosts were not allowed to buy since WE CAME FIRST. Apparently that did not last long or it was not true.

Also I remember something about hosts being given products outright. How else could the LEARN TO LOVE THEM AND THEN PROMOTE THEM. I am sure this might be true... one of the benefits of being on air for QVC.

I buy what I want to buy however things must of changed because the hosts weren’t allowed to shop while on air. Or at least that’s what I think I remember.

I don't care what they purchase, I find in irritating WHEN then purchase....they should not be able to order while they are working...it may be just a ploy but it is very unprofessional.

Last night the host wanted two of the tencil denim shirts, she commented about how expensive they were but wanted both colors along with a pair of sandals....it was over the top. I do not fall for the sales pitch, doubt many other people do either.

@bonnielu That is correct. Many yrs ago, the hosts said they were not allowed to order until AFTER the presentation on air. I have also heard many of them say, they receive "samples" or a product to review by using/wearing.

I personally, think they should stick to the rule of no ordering on air. For 1 thing, sometimes they say they are ordering in every color. Some items are very limited in color & sizes. It's not fair to customers for hosts to get 1st choice.

Hosts don't really buy on air (or very rarely). It's a sales tactic, pure and simple. And it seems to have irritated enough people that these two stopped. good.

I feel indifferent to hosts ordering during their shows, whether it’s just a sales ploy or if it’s real. In and of itself, a little of that does not bother me or dissuade me from purchasing.

But when the host actually hijacks the show for a ridiculous amount of time just so she can talk to the producer to shop for her, I’m done. She treats him/her like her personal shopper, as if she is a TV star, and we are privileged to be along for her ride. “Should I get an XS or an XXS?” “Did I get my color!?” “Wait, did I get my color??!?” “No, don’t tell me I didn’t get it!” “What? I’m freaking out right now. Did I get it???” “The XS?” “Tell me you got it!” “Did I get it?? ..........

I’ve seen that over-indulgence played over enough times to never want to waste my time trying to shop during her shows again.

I don't know why it seems this sales tactic bothers so many people to require numerous threads about it! Whichever ploy they use to try and get me to purchase doesn't matter. It is up to ME to spend/shop wisely.

Has anyone ever REALLY missed out purchasing an item that a host claimed to have just bought? Be honest!

They have been doing it for years and not just the host you are all harping on. It started a long time ago. If QVC wanted it stopped, they would not have let it continue for so many years.

I highly doubt these complaint threads of a few dozen people (compared to 95 million households) brought about any type of change. If the sales numbers show it isn't working, that would be why it was changed. If the sales spike during such conversations...it will continue.

Doesn't much bother me either way.

@Sweet Caroline 1 I can't understand why it would matter either way. It isn't like they are going to buy 700 of something and you won't get one; it's not like they have something so fascinating to say you are going to miss great details; or who cares what they are doing on"work time?"

I just don't know why it bugs anyone.

Why in the world would a host comment that an item she is trying to sell is so expensive? You want the customer to feel like they're getting a good deal.

First of all, we are commenting to express our opinion and that is what these forums are for. And what the host is doing may or may not be a sales ploy but it is just rude!

Customers want to hear about the product, not listen to the host waste time talking to whoever is in her earpiece discussing what size or color she should buy. Thats nice it doesn't bother you, but it does bother others and this is the place to voice their opinions.
